She comes to me in my dreams.
With soft, pale light and lips softer than that.
When I wake to the sun's harsh golden rays, I pray to all the gods for the day to be over and Hypnos to claim me again.
My days are long. I am haunted by hair as dark as the midnight sky and eyes that shine like stars.
I once asked her name, though I knew it in my heart. She answered that she was the Moon. I call her Selene in my heart.
They say that Elis is a beautiful country and I should enjoy it. I have lived in this country since I could remember and it is bland in comparison to the world I have found cradled in her pale arms that glow like silver in the dark.
They tell me that I am handsome and the girls would all like to woo me. I have seen these girls and none has a smile that makes the sheep quiet in their fields and my heart hammer against my chest. She is the only girl for me. This girl in my dreams.
On nights where the moon has made her cycle and she refuses to raise from her palace near the Ocean, I am left cold and shivering in my fields counting the stars to find my love.
I've dreamt of riding in her chariot and meeting the constellations. I've dreamt of her soft skin under my hands. I've dreamt of her sweet breath on my body.
I've prayed to never wake up.
Last night she asked me if I would give up all and dream of her forever. She told me to think about it when I woke.
She told me that we would have daughters as beautiful as she. She told me that her love would be as eternal as her passage across the sky. Every night. Until the end of the world.
I could have answered her then. Even though she silenced me with soft kisses.
I can't wait to fall asleep tonight.
I tell the Sun to hurry to his rest in the west country.
I want to tell her yes.
I want to be hers forever. I want to sleep.
