Traces of Ginger

Set after the episode "Battle of the bands". Darren spends time with Simone but his thoughts always revert back to Ginger…

Disclaimer: I don't own the series, just the fanfic!

"Diesel?" Simone's velvety voice interrupted his thoughts in her car when she dropped him home.

"Huh? What?" Darren snapped out of the trance he was in. He couldn't keep his eyes away from the Foutley home, which was surprisingly quiet given the fact that Carl usually has something going on in the backyard doghouse.

"You seem distracted." Simone frowned. "You've been staring at Ginger's house for ages."

"Well…" Darren said nervously, "It's only because she's my neighbor you see and I was wondering why it wasn't you know…" he stammered, "noisy."

Simone raised an eyebrow.

"Look it's not a big deal babe. I'm sorry I've been out of it. I guess the protest was a complete bust." He leaned in forward to plant a kiss on her cheek.

"I heard someone decided to tell the whole team that those stain resistant uniforms were horrible." Simone turned her head around, avoiding the kiss.

"What would ever give you that idea?" Darren said, praying that Simone didn't pick up the guilt in his voice.

"It's just…" Simone shook her head and examined her reflection on the mirror. "Suspicious. No team could possibly "change their mind" at the last second."

"We're talking about football players babe…" Darren said calmly. "Those guys couldn't decide whether they want steak or a protein shake. It's not a big deal is it?" he raised an arm and wrapped it around her shoulder.

"I guess you're right." Simone sighed and leaned against him. She nuzzled against his neck and tilted her head upwards to face him. Darren smiled. Simone's eyes looked beautiful in the moonlight. She giggled and softly lifted her head to plant a kiss on his lips when…

"What a surprise." A dull drawl interrupted the two and Darren turned around to face Mrs. Dave who stepped out of the house. "Didn't know the front of the wretched home is a hot make out center."

"MOTHER!" Dr. Dave ran outside. "I told you to wait before I grab the car keys!"

"We better get out of here," Darren whispered and Simone nodded, lifting her body and hitting the pedal to the metal as they drive around the block away from the Ginger's future grandmother.

Darren swallowed and clenched his fists. Every time he had alone time with Simone, there was always traces of Ginger coming back to haunt him. He wanted to ignore it, shake off the bad feeling in his head but all of a sudden, he couldn't stop thinking about her. He grinned as he remembered her silly ear costume from earlier.

"She did make a cute ear…" he muttered.

"Huh?" Simone's voice broke into his thoughts once more and Darren panicked.

"I…I mean, you make a cute pear…when there's a costume! You know…you make a cute cheer!" Darren stammered, leaning forward and kissing her breathlessly so she couldn't question him once more.

"Darren I…" and with that, Simone kissed him back just as fiercely and as passionately. It was awkward at first but as soon as Simone reciprocated the kiss, their bodies quickly melted with each others. Simone raised her arms and embraced her boyfriend, giggling softly as she kissed him.

"Diesel, you make a cute pear too…" she grinned, "Whatever that means."

Darren chuckled.

He tried his best to erase the thought of Ginger as he kissed her.
