The Wind Will Carry You On
By Kitten Starr
She had begged him to stay. Damnit! Why didn't he listen to her? Her greatest fear was becoming a reality. Spike Spiegel was still in love with Julia, his blonde angel. She had met Spike's mystery woman a few days before his death. She couldn't argue the fact that the enigmatic beauty was gorgeous. The woman's looks surpassed her own. She couldn't blame Spike for falling in love with Julia's appearance. However, there was more to love than just someone's heavenly looks. It was what was deep inside that really counted. Right?
-~*~-
The wind has taken you
You're free finally at peace
So still you lie
Leaving your cares behind
-~*~-
She could often see pangs of hurt cross his handsome features. They would come in spells and she wanted badly to offer him comfort. She had tried once, but she only got a brutal tongue-lashing. She had given up completely. When he wasn't thinking of the past, there was a gentle spirit in his eyes. The last hours of his life, she knew, that spirit had dissipated for eternity. She wondered if he was in heaven watching them.
-~*~-
The pain is gone
Gone with the spirit in your eyes
Now you're wandering around
Above us
As we cry
-~*~-
She could accept the fact that Spike wouldn't return. It was life. People lived and died. He was in a better place now, but something still wrenched her heart.
-~*~-
You've flown into the wind
Escaping all the hurt within
Took to the sky
Leaving the world behind
-~*~-
He was so young. He still had his whole life ahead of him. He had often spoken of childhood dreams. What happened there? If she could bring him back, she'd make sure he would make his dreams come true. Spike would forever remain a fantasy that would burn in her mind as well as her heart.
-~*~-
So young to die
How could you let life pass you by
And to the wind you go so many dreams
That you held inside
Now you're just a memory
Burning in my mind
-~*~-
She didn't know why the man upstairs had called. She didn't know why Spike had never chased after his dreams. Maybe he had once, but he evidently didn't try hard enough. She just wished she had told him how much she cared for him. He'd never know how much she loved him.
-~*~-
So young to die
How could you let life pass you by
And now you'll never know I loved you
And now you'll never know I cared
-~*~-
Faye Valentine looked out the small port window at the vast array of stars. One of those stars was Spike's soul. It was a soul that would burn forever. One day she'd join him, but not so soon she hoped.
"Spike, why did you have to leave me so soon? Now you'll never know I loved more than anything in this galaxy," she whispered with silent tears scorching her cheeks.
-~*~-
I really loved you
And now you'll never know
-~*~-
Faye descended the steps of the Bebop. A gust of Martian wind blew. A slight smile crept across Faye's face.
"I love you too, Spike."
-~*~-
You'll only fade
Into the wind
