The hardest part of loving someone is knowing when to let go and when to say goodbye.
Jacob stood far back in the trees, feeling his heart aching as he watched his Bella- no, not his,not anymore- dancing with the evil bloodsucker. The only question running through his mind was when. When would he take the warm, beautiful woman in front of him and turn her into a cold, heartless leech? He watched as Edward twirled Bella towards him.
"Thank you. This is very… kind of you," Edward said.
"Kind is my middle name. Can I cut in?" Jacob smiled as he took Bella into his arms. He breathed deeply, trying to capture the scent of his beloved forever in his mind while attempting not to squeeze her to hard. "Oh Bella, why did you have to choose him over me? What could I have done to change your mind?" He slowly turned her in a circle and, in an attempt to make things seems normal, joked about her two left feet. Jacob managed to keep her in his arms for one more song, making small talk. Then she said something that made his heart stop cold.
"I'm not putting anything off! And yes I can have a real honeymoon! I can do anything I want! Butt out!
After a minute, what she had said kicked in, "What?" he choked on the word., "What did you say? What do you mean? Have a real honeymoon? While you're still human?" Jacob felt himself losing control. There was no way he was going to let her put herself in danger like that. "Over my dead body," he thought. He knew he sounded hypocritical, but if there was one thing he could not stand, it was the thought of Bella getting hurt. If it weren't for the members of his pack forcing him away, he would have torn Edward's heart out. The thought that Edward would even for one second agree to Bella's ridiculous idea was enough to make his blood boil.
"I swear, leech, you hurt her and even the pack won't be able to protect you," Jacob thought viciously, knowing that Edward would be listening to every word. "Watch your back." He allowed the others to push him farther and farther from Bella, feeling what was left of his heart shatter with each step.
A/N: This is my first Twilight story, so please be gentle. This is what I pictured Jacob thinking as he danced with Bella. The quote at the beginning came from a challenge on the Harry Potter Fanfiction Challenge forum. Anything you recognize belongs to Stephenie Meyer.
Thanks go out to Edwardsfavoritebrunette and EvilPumpkin from Project Team Beta for beta reading this for me. You girls rock!
