AN: ...Wow, it's been a while since I posted anything. Sorry 'bout that, the inspiration just hasn't been there. Anyway, this is the first fic of my new fandom, Katekyo Hitman Reborn!. Now, it is an OT3 fic, which means Chikusa/Chrome/Ken. That's three people, folks. Can't say I didn't warn you. There's maybe a very little bit of swearing, so fair warning an' all that.

Disclaimer: Not mine, which is probably a good thing.

Ten years later, they've got it down to a finely honed art. Sure, there's been a few hiccups along the way, (Ken is still bitter about the scar on his ass), but now there's nothing they can't take down together.

Ken settles naturally into the role of long-range detection, and first strike intervention. He never thought he'd be grateful for anything those Estraneo bastards did to him, but having all those extra animal attributes had sure as hell helped, especially in the early days, when Chrome was still experimenting with her power. On those rare occasions when something does get past him, he switches roles with Chikusa, and ensures that anyone who wants to hurt Chrome has to go through him first, the bastards.

Chikusa realizes early on that he doesn't have the senses necessary to detect a distant enemy, so he leaves it to Ken and concentrates on his yo-yos. Now, when their opponents are within range, he has the skill and the power needed to take them out in seconds, and he knows that he can leave Chrome's direct protection to Ken. However, when the bad guys are gone, Chikusa still keeps a close eye on Chrome. It's not that she can't take care of herself, because she's more than capable. It's just that he's not going to let anything happen to her. Full stop.

She knows how overprotective they are, and while she knows it's not necessary all the time, she's still grateful for it. When Ken snarls at her for an unusually boneheaded move, or Chikusa directs his icy glare at a boy who dared to approach, she knows that they're protecting her, Chrome, and not just Rokudo. Although she doesn't begrudge them a single iota of their loyalty towards her strange tenant; after all, she owes him her life as well.

It really is a strange relationship the three of them have hammered out, but against all odds, it works. She centers them, balances them, and they keep her safe. They make sure she knows that they need her to keep them balanced, and she needs that perhaps the most of all.

Notes: My very first OT3 fic. I'm so proud! Anyway, reviews and concrit will be adored, and possibly gleed over.
