Never forgive. That seems to be one of the few rules he lives by. I can see it in his eyes. They are cold and dark. Even if I beg and plead for hours and hours, he will never change his mind. His tone has changed from one of sorrow and pain to one of…forgiveness. My mind says he has forgiven me for what I have done, but my heart tells me that there is something wrong. His eyes are sending the same message. Never forgive, never forget.

"Mrs. Lovett, you're a bloody wonder
Eminently practical and yet appropriate as always
As you've said repeatedly
There's little point in dwelling on the past"

As he draws closer and closer he sings to me, forgiving me. Although my heart is telling me that he is trying to fool me, I cannot resist the chance to hold the barber in my arms and waltz with him. He takes my hands and sweeps me around the room.

As I continue to plead for real forgiveness. I get lost in his beautiful eyes. I sing about the sea and think about our wedding. Just him and me, maybe we will even find Toby and we can live by the sea together, forever. Alas, I know that this won't happen, I have made the mistake of not finishing Lucy off years ago. Today, I am finally paying for it.

I know what is coming before it happens. I've known it all along. We draw closer and closer to the fire. I silently pray that he will change his mind and that we will be able to live together, forever. But then it happens. I'm thrown backwards, into the fire. I hear myself screaming but I think of life by the sea.

By the sea, Mr. Todd, that's the life I covet,
By the sea, Mr. Todd, ooh, I know you'd love it!
You and me, Mr. T, we could be alone
In a house what we'd almost own,
Down by the sea!

I see his cold unforgiving eyes looking down at me. His work is done. He has gotten his revenge. Even though he has killed me, all I can think is us down by the sea. As my eyes start to close and I stop screaming I make a silent promise to wait for him down by the sea.

Down by the sea,
Married nice and proper
By the sea
Bring along your chopper
To the seaside hoo hoo!
By the beautiful sea!

The End
