Rodney entered his quarters quietly, John looked up.
"Rodney?"
"It's done, everyone out there apparently thinks I'm an asshole but you're not going to get into trouble."
John was silent for a few moments. "You know you didn't have to do that," he said eventually.
Rodney waved a hand. "No matter how angry Elizabeth and everyone else is with him the fact that you almost beat the crap out of him is going to come up in the reports eventually. You can't afford that… We can't afford that."
John nodded, his head bowed. "And this way," Rodney continued. "You at least have the excuse of being under a mind altering drug. Teyla would probably have kept it quiet though."
"I couldn't ask her to do that."
"Yeah, I know."
There was silence until Rodney asked the question that had been bugging him since John had done it, "what the hell were you so angry about anyway? He didn't drug you."
John's head shot up and the fury on his face made Rodney back up a step automatically. Wincing, John softened his expression.
"No," he responded in Rodney's patented is-it-possible-for-anyone-to-be-this-stupid-and-still-be-living tone. "He drugged you." Rodney's eyes widened and he continued hurriedly, "and Teyla and Ronon and Elizabeth and…"
He was still listing names a minute later when Rodney finally hit him on the shoulder but the expression on Rodney's face told him that he'd understood.
