It was nearly Valentine's Day. Nick was getting nervous. He planned on asking someone special a very important question.
He had gone to the grocery story and had all the ingredients for the perfect meal. He had the perfect wine and music. His house was immaculate. He had chosen a piece of jewelry for his beloved that he thought would be perfect.
Nick had told his beloved to be ready for anything. He had said dress nice and be ready for anything. Nick told his beloved to be at his house by 8:00.
The next morning at 8:00 the doorbell rang. Nick had been up since 5:00 making sure everything was ready.
"Your Prince Charming is here," said Greg as Nick opened the door.
"Hi, my love." Nick's nervousness had disappeared as soon as he opened the door and saw Greg's brown eyes and cute smile. Nick closed the door and the house was dark, lit only by candles. Nick took Greg in his arms and kissed him.
Nick led Greg to the dining room and told him to sit down. Nick came back carrying the plates of food. He had fixed steaks, baked potatoes and green beans. He had even made the rolls from scratch, his Grammy's recipe. He sat the plates down and poured the wine.
They sat there eating and talking. When dinner was done, Nick brought in the dessert. A heart-shaped Black Forest cake with cherries.
"My favorite!"
"Before you slice into the cake," Nick walked around and got down on his knee. He took Greg's hands in his. "Greg, you will never know how much I love you. I could say I love you from the bottom of my heart, but it's deeper. I could say I will love you till the day I die, but it will be longer. You have been there. You have always been there. You always could tell what I needed and were there with it before I realized it myself. Greg, my love, will you be my partner for life?"
"Of course! Yes! Yes!" With those words, Nick slipped the ring onto Greg's finger. It fit perfectly.
The day had been perfect. Life was perfect.
