Down the hall and through the doors, blank face, no emotion. The shower feels nice on her skin even as she ignores the flashes of a past she cannot piece together. Dead bodies, not sleeping, she knows that. Knew that then.

Niceties said, comments that are meaningless in the whole of it all, but those words, they mean everything and nothing to her the moment they pass her lips.

"Friends help friends," Echo said, knowing instictually the truth of those words, though she could not fathom the depth to which that would be tested.

"It's time for your treatment, Echo," Mr. Langdon said. There were lines around his eyes, the only outward sign that these treatments were more than she was led to believe. Sadness crinkled his face and it hurt her to hurt him, this man whom she trusted with her life.
