Dear James,

I am writing this letter and if you receive it, you know that I'm going insane. This is very hard to say, but I have liked you since I first saw you, all those years ago on the train. We have known each other for six years, one month and two days, and in that time, I was never honest about my feelings. God, I feel like such a git, writing this instead of telling it to your face, but I've tried for a long time and I haven't been able to. Perhaps now that I've written, I'll be able to tell it to you in person. Well, I hope you had a great summer vacation.

Much love,

Lily Evans

P.S. I know that you listen to muggle music, so do me a favor and listen to the lyrics of "For The First Time" by Kenny Loggins.

"Perfect," said Lily Evans as she finished the letter to James. Pieces of parchment littered the floor of her dormitory. It was already midnight, way past when she should have been asleep. Being Head Girl had its advantages; one being that she had a room all to herself so she wasn't being yelled at for keeping the other girls awake. She wrote it down, as though they had always been friends, but they hadn't. She pretended that she hated James and his friends while she doodled his name all over her parchment in class. Once, Lily had even been marked off for having 'Mrs. James Potter' written all over her homework. God, was that ever embarrassing, especially as James had been sitting right next to her at the moment.

"Diamond, come here," Lily said to her snowy owl, which flew over right away. "Do me a favor and fly this over to James, will you? I have a treat for you when you come back." Diamond hooted in acknowledgement and flew off through the open window.

James Potter was sitting in his dorm with Remus Lupin, Sirius Black, Peter Pettigrew and Frank Longbottom talking about school, life, girls, friends, girls, families and, of course, girls. He heard a faint tap, tap at the window and walked over to see that it was Lily's owl with a letter addressed to him.

"James," said Remus, "Why did Lily send you a letter?" James shrugged, opened the letter and read it carefully. The more he read, the wider his eyes got, until they almost burst out of his head.

"Um, Lily, she, err, she likes me," responded a wide-eyed James.

"Lemme see that," said Sirius, tearing the letter away from James. He read silently for a few seconds, "This is hilarious. There are three options, a) Lily has finally gotten a sense of humor and has decided to play a prank on the master of pranks, b) she really does have feelings for you or c) Somebody in this school knows that she is your one weakness and is using that as an excuse to play a sick joke on you."

"Yeah, as if that's likely. Not a single person will ever be able to get to James Potter. I mean, come on, the Gryfindor god-of-all-things-possible? Please," Remus laughed with a huge grin on his face.

"Well, I'm going to talk to her. All of you, leave. I'll see you in the morning." James shooed them out of the room, but before Sirius was out of the room, he said, "Don't do anything I wouldn't do, Prongs."

A/N- yes, I know, short chapter, and I haven't updated my other stories in a while. I am so easily distract-oh, look, a pony... Just kidding. I hope you like this one. Please R&R.
