"You keep staring at me like that and I'm gonna smack that stupid smile off your face." Kido said. Her thumb pressed against the buttons of her MP3 rapidly as she searched for something to drown the outside world with.
"Ouch, you're so mean." Kano complained, a hand clutched dramatically at his chest, but his cat like eyes continued to watch her with a mixture of utter amusement and complete fascination.
"Yeah, well. . ." Kido trailed off, growing irritated. She simply saw no point in continuing this conversation any further. She'd just found an interesting song to listen to when Kano replied back.
"It's a shame too." he said, his smile widened more into a grin, "You used to be so cute~"
Kido's thumb stopped half way from hitting the button. She hadn't really expected Kano's words to impact her the way it had. You could say she felt relatively hurt by it, though that was ridiculous because it shouldn't matter to her. She didn't really care anymore if people thought she was appealing or not; it wasn't something she focused primarily on. But why did having Kano say what she already knew make her feel so upset?
Kido's scowl became ever increasing as she kept pondering these conflicting feelings. "Well I'm sorry I'm not cute anymore." She made sure to add an extra thick layer of venomous sarcasm to her words, as if that would make anything better.
Kano had the nerve to laugh at her, though instead of making her irritated it made Kido's chest tighten. "I think I struck a nerve there." he said noticing the harsher than usual tone her voice had taken on. "You shouldn't take it so seriously." he added.
Kido decided she was officially done with this conversation. The only thing it brought her was a bad mood she didn't think even her music could purge now. Kano seemed to have caught on that the girl was blocking him out in the way she was turning slightly from him and the faint sound of the music emanating from her ear buds. He pouted for a second at being ignored, but then a mischievous grin spread across his lips.
The song was halfway over when Kido felt something yank out her left ear bud cutting her focus on the song short. She turned to growl at Kano, because of course it was him, when she was looking directly into his eyes, his face millimeters from hers.
"No. . . you're not cute," he said smirking, "You're beautiful now."
Kido was already blushing a bit from Kano's close proximity, but now that his words had sunk in her face reddened twice as much. Something else stirred inside her chest, like the other feelings she'd felt only a few minutes before, but this one was different. Her reaction was almost instantaneous as her fist collided with his face.
Kano didn't really enjoy getting hit in the face as often as he did, but this time he was glad of it because any other reaction from Kido wouldn't have been as fun to watch. He knew the girl would punch him, telling him to "shut up" or "go away" while also trying to hide her flushed face, and he would end up cackling on the carpet. He also knew that she would just think of this as one of his other ways of messing with her, which it was, but she would think his words as lies, like they always were. Except this time, it wasn't. Kano actually, really, truly meant what he had said, but Kido didn't have to know that. And he laughed a little more on the inside.
