A Sweet Husband
All the kids had been put to bed, it was quiet in the house and when Nick walked into the master bedroom Nick expected to see Jackie either reading or sleeping but instead she was crying.
"Honey what's wrong?" He asked as he went and sat down next to her.
"I'm exhausted and can't sleep, and my back and feet are killing me." She told him as she dabbed at her eyes.
He leaned over and kissed her temple and then got up and left the room.
She heard the water running in the master bathroom moments later and she didn't think anything of it.
A few minutes passed before Nick came back into the room carrying a towel. He laid it on the floor at the foot of the bed.
"What are you doing?" She asked.
"You'll see." He said as he left the room again.
He came back carrying the foot soaker he had bought her a couple pregnancies ago. He set it down on the towel. He then went over to her and gave her a hand up and led her to the foot of the bed.
"Thank you." She told him as she gingerly sat down and stuck her feet in the water.
"Too hot?" He asked.
"No, it's wonderful." She responded.
He sat down on the bed behind her and started gently massaging her back.
"I'm sorry I'm such a whiner sometimes. It's been a very smooth and easy pregnancy, and the babies are doing so well and I'm so extremely grateful for that, I just lose my marbles sometimes."
He smiled softly in response.
"I love you." He whispered before he leaned forward and kissed her cheek.
"I love you too, and I'm also extremely grateful for every sweet thing you do, even if I don't always say it. I don't know what I would do without you."
He smiled and continued to rub her back for several more minutes.
"Would you like me to go warm that water up for you?"
"No thank you, I think I'm going to try to get some sleep."
"Ok." He told her.
After she had crawled into bed he picked up the foot soaker and stuck it for now in the tub, he'd rinse out it tomorrow, he was tired too.
After he'd done that he crawled into bed next to Jackie.
"Thanks again for everything." She told him.
"You're welcome, sleep well."
"You too." She responded.
Within moments they were both asleep.
