Shifts: these are the 'blank sheet' of the shades, these can turn their limbs into any arm or leg weapon, they also can travel though shadow, they are the one to be the first and lowest level shades.
Mimics: these are self explanatory, they are like chameleons or changelings in ability wise, they are the spies of the shades due to them able to mimic living beings, there are some cases of mimics actually forgetting they are mimics and will just act like anyone else.
Behemoths; these are the heavy hitters of the shades, their brute strength is on par with Hercules, this has a drawback on intelligence, they are almost impossible to kill if you don't know what to look for,
Casters: the mage's and medics of the shades, their skill in magic is second only to the most experienced of magic users, they are hardly seen but are fairly week so expect a behemoth to be around to protect them.
Wing blades: these are the aerial fleet of the shades, they have sword like wings and look agile so they have a lot of speed but they have a hard time turning so it's easier to lead them into objects to daze them, they look like the legendary dragons of the mid way area's of the world a slight mix of western and eastern.
Shinobi: the ninja of the shades, these stealth masters are also part of the spies in the ranks; they are the most literal living shadows of the army.
Specters: these are the possessing type shades, they posses a being and control's them to do what ever their creator orders them to do. They are handy at turning people against each other,
Hybrids: these are the chimeras of the shades; they are similar to any of the ranks and are the most unpredictable.
Guardian: These knights like shades are the one to watch out for, they have high defense and are master swordsmen, and they sometimes ride the wing blades,
Nightmare: as the name suggests these are the demonic horses of the shades, they are the ones to cause the most chaos in the universe.
Hell hound: these are the trackers of the shades, they are able to use an abyss like flame to attack and have a heightened sense of smell.
Cerberus: these are the same as hell hounds only with three heads.
