In the span of time that it took for the first raindrop of the season to splash onto Hermione Granger's unruly hair and travel down to kiss her neck, she knew she was in love. In love with her secret boyfriend, captured by their hidden moments, and enamored by the way he encouraged her to do and be better - for the both of them.

Hermione Granger has been in love with Draco Malfoy for twelve seconds already and they felt like the most treasured moments of her live.

It started as a game, their relationship. The traded insults and hexes in the halls, the unspoken competition of who could be the most creative and hurtful. Then it became a lust, an unintentional lust hidden beneath the anger of two competing rivals in academics and morals. Then came the secret trists, the unbidden passion.

And then the love. The love that blossomed from a realization that Draco was not the bastard and bigot he always seemed to be. He was broken, vulnerable. He needed a reason to fight his family, to fight what he has always known.

Draco met her under their tree in the Forbidden Forest that night, a look of fear in his eyes.

Planting his feet down firmly in front of her, Draco twined his fingers around Hermione's and brought them up to his heart. Breathing deeply he said, "I took the Mark."

Certain that this meant their relationship, whatever it had become, was over - Hermione looked at their encircled hands, trying to memorize every detail. This could have been the last moment they ever spent together.

But then a raindrop fell from the dark sky above her and turned away her fears.

"Take me to the Order."

Hermione's head shot back up and stared with wide eyes at the man she was now finally getting to know. The person that had sent her encouraging letters without signing his name, the man that moved past his prejudices to see something more in their fire. This wasn't just a hidden relationship brought upon by the excitement of a secret affair, it was more. She hadn't dared to hope before.

He tried to smile but Draco couldn't quite bring the hope into his eyes. He was fearful.

Hermione nodded, decided on sooner rather than later as being the best course of action. "Okay, let's go."

Draco tried to release Hermione's hands as she turned to walk in the rain back towards the castle but she refused, keeping one of his palm's tightly secured in hers.

He tried to stop her, "But…"

She firmly stated "But nothing Draco Malfoy. We are doing this together." And she pulled him with her towards Headmaster Dumbledore's office.

In at least once place they would be together. They would be Hermione and Draco in the eyes of the Order of the Phoenix while acting the part of Mudblood and Death Eater in the halls. At least for now.

The rain beat steadily onto their two hearts.

A/N: I intend for this story to be a one-shot but I may eventually expand upon it since I really enjoyed how it came together. It's a little blurb that popped into my head when I was out walking my dog and I had to take a break from my current WIP to write it down.

Add me to your author follow list to see if this one-shot eventually becomes something more and to be notified when I upload my 30 chapter WIP involving HG/DM in a Marriage Law story. I'm on chapter 7 right now so I'll be uploading soon. I also have original fiction on Wattpad, more details on my profile page.
