Jonathan was sitting in the desert, waiting for midnight. Lately, school had become incredibly demanding and and he'd found himself having to stay up late to do homework and sleeping right through the secret hour. He hadn't seen Jessica in a week.

He checked his watch, 11:48, twelve more minutes. In just a few weeks it would be Christmas break and he would be able to visit Jessica every night. He wondered what she would say about him not visiting her, would she be angry? He hoped not, they got to spend so little time together it didn't seem a waste of time, being mad at each other.

He checked his watch, 11:51, it had only been three minutes. Couldn't time move just a little faster? The desert was getting uncomfortably cold and he had forgotten his jacket. Too late to get it now, he thought to himself. Over the next nine minutes he checked his watch obsessively and tried to think of a conversation topic. Finally, he saw blue time sweeping towards him. A moment later Jessica folded out of blue time a few meters away.

"Hey Jonathan, where have you been?" she asked.

"Err, well school has been demanding lately and I've been staying up late. Sorry." he said.

"Apology accepted." she said, "I missed you." then she reached over and kissed him.

"Me too." he said, pulling away.

"Is something wrong?" she asked, looking worried.

"I miss have all of us together, our little group of friends."

"You mean you miss Melissa?"

"No, and yes. I don't know. Rex and Dess and I don't talk much anymore. I wish we could all be together again, like before you stuck your hand in the lightning..."

"Are you saying it's my fault?"

"No! No! Of course not! If you hadn't done that we'd all be dead, everyone would be dead!"

"Thanks... Hey, wanna go flying? It might take your mind off your troubles, and we still have a while before the hour ends."

"Sure."

They took hold of each other's hand's and jumped, perfectly synchronized from years of practice.
