Chapter 1: The Sorting Hat
Hermione Granger looked up to the dusty old hat sitting on a wooden stool, the Sorting Hat. She had read about in Hogwarts: A History, it sorted every first year student his or her house that they would stay in for their school life. The brunette ran over all the facts she knew about all four houses, Slytherin, Hufflepuff, Gryffindor, and lastly Ravenclaw.
Slytherin was for people who were cunning and deceiving, and the least likely house she would get into. Hufflepuff was for the kind and calm, and she had a tendency to... Smart off to people, whether or not she meant to, so it was unlikely for her to be suited in black and yellow robes. Gryffindor and Ravenclaw is what confused her. Gryffindor was for the brave and bold hearted, which she was, but she only did so after she had known what to say due to studying the subject beforehand, and then Ravenclaw, the house that the students dedicated almost all their time to learning and studying magic, the house of the intelligent and wise, which Hermione was.
Hermione stood among the large crowd of first years as the head of the Gryffindor house, Professor McGonagall standing tall at the front of the school, gazing around to see all the new faces of whom she shall be teaching. The head of Gryffindor began calling up people so the Sorting Hat may stand on their head and tell them the house they were destined to be in. "Hufflepuff!" The hat shouted out gleefully, "Gryffindor!" it shouted again as a new student got the hat. A blonde haired boy was called, Hermione wanted to say his name was Draco, or something like that. The hat barely touched his head before shouting "Slytherin!".
Hermione looked around nervously as names were called, she didn't know what house she would get into, Gryffindor or Ravenclaw. And not knowing something was a feeling Hermione Granger did not like. She breathed in one shaky breath at a time, watching the kids walk up and have the hat yelling out what house they were in.
Then the dreaded moment happened, "Hermione Granger!" Professor McGonagall yelled out, looking across the crowd with a cat-like gaze. Hermione swallowed hard and began walking up to the stood and the hat. Professor McGonagall held the Sorting Hat by its tip as the brunette sat down on the wooden stool as she had seen so many other do before her.
Her eyes scanned across the crowd swiftly, seeing the boy who had lost his toad on the train ride here, Nevil, she thought his name was. Then she saw the other two boys she spoke to. One had messy red head and an almost broken wand, Ron Weasley. The other looked almost as nervous as she felt, and he was famous. Harry Potter, The Boy Who Lived. She had read about Harry in several books before meeting him. Hermione decided she liked him, he seemed like every other boy just trying to get by school, but the thing was, he was famous! That is what shocked her the mos, you would think he would be boastful and proud of what he had acomplished, and he should be! But he wasn't, Harry had seemed as ordinary as Hermione herself.
But all of her thoughts were cut off feeling a hat slip on her head and fall over her eyes. The Sorting Hat was a very big hat. It had seemed to contemplate where to put the brown eyed girl, "Intelligent, very intelligent, but brave as well..." The hat whispered so only she could hear. "Where to put you, where indeed?" The hat said before roaring out,
"Ravenclaw!"
