Disclaimer: I do not own Jonny Quest or related characters. I do however own my OC: Diana Flint
A/N: Here's an old story I found on my computer and decided to re-write/update despite the fact it contains an OC who I planned to scrap as far as my JQ universe went. Since Diana could easily fall into the Mary Sue category if I wasn't careful (especially since she was originally going to join the core team).
Also, for a point of reference, Diana is 3 years older than Jonny. She's 15 years old here so this is when Jonny would be 12 and Hadji 13.
"A little to the left." Race said. A few moments later the flashlight, the only source of light he had under the Quest Rover, shifted to the left. "There it is." Race sighed, seeing the reason the rover had been having so much trouble lately.
"What is it?" Diana asked, narrowing her eyes as she looked where the light was pointing. She didn't really see anything amiss, then again she never really worked on vehicles therefore odds were she wouldn't be able to spot it on her own.
"It looks like..."
"Snake!" The light disappeared as the flashlight was dropped and the fifteen-year-old scrambled out from under the rover.
"What...?" Turning his head to the right, Race saw a small snake slithering by one of the rover's front wheels. "It's just a gardener snake, Diana."
"It's a snake. That's the beginning and end of what I need to know." Came the reply.
Sighing, Race slid out from under the rover. He found the brunette standing a few feet away, her dark eyes focused on the rover as if she could see straight through it to where the snake was. "It's not going to hurt you. If anything it's more scare of..."
"... Me than I am of it." Diana finished. "I know. It doesn't make a difference to me."
Honestly, Race found it kind of comical. Diana Flint, daughter of his old friend Nathan Flint, had stared down several crooks over the two years she'd been with the team and had remained (mostly) clear-headed during what Race would think was some of the most frightening parts of their adventures. Yet here she was, scared of a little snake. He knew better than to show his amusement though.
"Alright, I'll move it somewhere else." Race murmured as he got to his feet. Diana took a few steps closer to watch as he picked up the small reptile and carried it a good few feet away. Kneeling down, he released the snake in the grass near the path leading down to the lighthouse.
"Thanks." Diana mumbled as she retrieved the flashlight. "Sorry, it's just the snakes back home were mostly of the poisonous variety and..."
"It's alright." Race answered. "Now, let's get this thing repaired."
"Right." Diana nodded.
It was quiet for a few minutes as they returned to working on the rover (or rather, Race was working on repairing the rover while Diana held the flashlight). Then Diana spoke up, "Race?"
"Yeah?"
"Can you please not tell Jonny or Hadji I'm scared of snakes?"
Race chuckled, "Sure thing, kiddo."
