This was inspired by PhantomBrat's 'Song Shots' chapter 5, 'Hands of Time's. I hope you all enjoy it.
He sighed sadly as he zipped up his backpack and looked around his soon-to-be former room. He had buried his half of the Millennium Ring under the sidewalk that was being repaired in front of the Kame Game Shop the night before the cement was to be poured.
All he could think about was getting away as fast as possible before Bakura returned from his 'trip' to the city. Ryou was sure to be treated like a slave upon his return. He'd saved what he could from the monthly allowance his father sent and managed to get a tiny apartment in the poorest section of Domino City.
As much as he hated selling his Monster World game, Ryou was relieved that Yugi purchased it from the money he earned through Dueling.
Pulling himself from his thoughts, Ryou headed to greet the taxi driver. As he prepared to close the door, Ryou tossed his keyring into the apartment and watched as it landed in the middle of the floor.
Bakura entered the dark apartment and called out to his Light. He was starving and wanted Ryou to cook. When he didn't get an answer, he stormed over to Ryou's room and threw open the door. All of the boards and pieces to Ryou's prized Monster World set were gone from their shelves. Ryou's desk was void of it's usual occupants. Bakura checked the rest of the room and learned that most of the teen's clothes were missing.
Just as he was about to lose his temper, someone started pounding on the door frantically.
Bakura stared at the heavily bandaged figure in the hospital bed and berated himself. Had he treated the boy as well as the Pharoah did, Ryou wouldn't have felt the need to run away. He wouldn't have been in that taxi or on that particular road in such poor weather.
Had he respected Ryou, he would have been safe in his own home and out cold in the totalled cab with the driver dead after colliding with a tree because he was taking more medicine than he should have just so that he could raise four children on his own.
Bakura knew deep down that he should be blaming himself for Ryou's current condition. He vowed to his ancient gods that if they permitted Ryou to live he would treat the teen as if he were one of their own.
Ryou stayed unconscious for two months with no sign of waking. It was near midnight on the eve of the day Ryou was born that he began to stir.
Bakura was out trying to recover Ryou's half of the Millennium Ring from under the sidewalk where he had finally located it after searching. It was not an easy task since he didn't want to leave evidence of his attempt.
As soon as the Item was freed from its 'grave', he filled in the hole and headed back to the hospital to wait until someone let him in.
Three months later, Ryou still hated looking at his reflection because of the scar that now rested just below his left eye. Due to the accident he'd been through Ryou now had numerous scars and was still suffering with the resulting amnesia. Bakura was trying to make up for the torment he had caused his Light.
Ryou was still recovering, but Bakura was going to be there to help him no matter what happened.
