Author's note: It's my first JAG story, so please don't be cruel :) This story was inspired by the book - "Loneliness in the Net" (the polish title is "SamotnoϾ w Sieci) written by Janusz L. Wisniewski, the song belongs to John Porter and Anita Lipnicka, and the title is "Cry"
"And the joyful day has come"
"Sometimes I almost feel you
right beside me.
Sometimes I almost sense your warming touch.
No matter where I go
I look around me
Hoping to be blessed with your smile"
She didn't know before it's possible to suffer so much. She didn't know it's possible to miss somebody so much. She had to learnt it later. After that memorable evening when Admiral with strange look on his face came to her and said that Harm had been killed during one of his secret operations. She fainted and collapsed unconscious in his arms.
She practically didn't remember the funeral. Harriet was crying... Admiral was embracing her and talking something to her...She didn't know what... She was staying there and looking at his grave, where he was buried, where were buried all her dreams. All the time, during the ceremony she was reading the sentence, which she had asked to put also on his grave. Only one sentence under dates of his birth and death - " And the joyful day will come ". Somebody shook her hand. Somebody, probably Harm's mother kissed her. She felt Trish's tears on her face, merging with her own tears. Mac wanted to scream. She couldn't.
One year later.
Mac run slowly her fingers over the name in the freezing cold stone. One single tear rolled down trough her cheek. -Take me with you. Please. - She said silently. When she stand up, wind blew through her dark hair. She looked once more at his grave. Then she turn away and left the cemetery. She went to Jag. When she was going to her office, everybody was looking at her sorrowfully. They knew she was at the cemetery every day, only this left to her. Before every visit she was anxious and nervous, but after she came back with such pain in her beautiful eyes, that they didn't know what was worse. But they could feel that these visits were giving her strength to live. But they didn't even know how difficult it was for her to live without him. This one year had proved her how much she needed him, his smile, his presence, even their quarrels, everything was better than this emptiness, that could never be filled. She wasn't prepared to live this live without him and she doubt she could ever be. After finished her work, Mac looked at these rooms, which had been her and Harm's second home. Then she said everybody goodbye and left out Jag' s building.
None of Jag's staff know that it was her firewall for ever. In the same evening on the straight and dry road Sarah Mackenzie's car pulled over and crashed with lorry which was going opposite. Mac died on the spot. Police didn't find any signs of slowing down her car. All her family and friends came for her funeral and everybody wanted to believe that this was what she wanted wholeheartedly. Smile and happiness on her face made them believed that she was finally with one she loved with all her heart. She was buried next to him. At last they were together and nothing could ever come between them. They had overcome everything. Wind was wailing and all who loved them were mourning for their destiny. Destiny of people who world had separate and only death could unite for ever. Suddenly the silence of bleak cemetery was interrupted by the song of nightingale – "And the joyful day has came".
