Mello slowly opened his eyes, taking a moment to adjust to the light. He groaned slowly as he picked himself up. Wait, was he on a bed? He looked around and took in his surroundings.

He was... In the flat? When did he get there? He sighed and rubbed his forehead. Standing up slowly, he walked towards the living room.

His heart skipped a beat when he saw his redhead on the couch.

Memories flooded his mind.

Mello glanced at the TV in the dashboard, "With regards to the man who was shot dead, his identity is still unknown. His heart sank, "Matt... I got you killed... Sorry."

Mello stared at the gamer on the couch. "M-Matt?" he said nervously. He was never one to show emotion, but this time was different. He held his breath, waiting for a response. Matt was punching away on his faithful hand held, "Che, hold on a sec. Gotta finish this level." he muttered shortly.

The blonde let out a relieved sigh.

He found a spot next to Matt and sat down. Victory music played, and Matt clicked the hand held off.

"Somethin' up?" He questioned. Mello looked at him for a moment, taking in his reality. He shook his head softly.

Matt sighed and leaned his head onto the blonde's shoulder, who in return stiffened. "Matt, what the Hell?"

Matt smiled softly, "Nothing. It's a nice day today, dontcha think?" Mello glanced out the window in front of them, not bothering to shake the hacker off. He was too relieved.

"Eh, pretty nice." he replied. Matt suddenly stood up and snapped on his goggles, which were previously nestled in his fiery hair. "Let's go for a walk."

Mello stared at him strangely for a moment before sighing and joining him. "Fine, whatever. Need some fresh air anyways." He shrugged and they headed off. Mello decided not to ask why the usually paranoid Matt left their door unlocked.

...

They headed past the corner store, the book shop, and a few random restaurants with cheesy names. Mello stared at the back of Matt's head, surprised he hadn't bore a hole through it yet, nearly hitting Matt when he stopped abruptly. He looked at the sight in front of them. Wait, was this... "Matt, is this... A playground?"

Matt smiled sheepishly and nodded. Mello gave him a strange look as he ran off to the swing set. Matt placed himself on an empty swing, grabbing the chains and glancing towards Mello, "Join me!" he called out to the older man.

Mello groaned, but decided to humor him. He plunked himself down in the swing next to Matt, who was currently gently swinging, a serene smile on his face.

"Hey, Mello?", he said suddenly. "Yeah?" The other replied. "Remember when we used to do this at Wammy's? I had to always beg you to join me, but you always did anyways." Matt let out a content laugh at the memories. Mello smiled a bit, he liked seeing the gamer happy. Not that he would ever admit that or anything.

They gently swung for a while, sharing memories of days long past and laughing at all of the old inside jokes they used to share. It was peaceful, a light breeze swirled the warm air. The sun shone just bright enough and clouds just dotted the sky.

"Matt?"

"Yeah, Mello?"
"We're dead aren't we?"

"Yeah."

"... Good."
