Liquid fire courses through her until she can practically feel the blood boiling beneath her skin. She doesn't know how long she's been here or how much longer it will be before the venom consumes her entirely. All she knows is that she can't see, that her vision is blurred from the tears and beads of sweat that trickle along her flesh. She's going in and out, out and in, dreaming of eternity, of the silver lining, and wondering in the back of her mind if each dream is her last.
She bites back a scream until there's blood on her lips. For one fleeting second, there's relief. A sense of calm as she realizes her stomach isn't twisting at the taste. Must mean it's almost over. Must mean forever is drawing near.
But the pain grips her chest again like a thief in the night, her insides turning until she curls into a ball and cries out for God or the Devil to save her.
And then suddenly her senses still. Suddenly there's music. Suddenly, there's an ice chill against her forehead, smoothing back her damp, tangled hair, sending delicious tickles up and down her spine. She fights to make her vision focus, to see her angel beside her, humming her lullaby into the hollow of her throat. He kisses her lips like the lightest of breezes, and when she tries hard enough, she can see the anguish in his topaz eyes. The longing for this to be over and be over soon. To end her suffering so that in the end it's just him, her, and eternity.
He pulls her into his arms, and it's as if his touch is healing. As if the tables have turned, and he's her heroin now, making her feel like she's flying and detaching from the way her bones are aching. He continues to hum their song, their lullaby, until like a baby she feels herself go limp in his embrace, and the warmth of dreams envelops her.
And as she sleeps, all she can see is him. All she feels are his kisses sending jolts of power into her veins. All she hears is their song in her ears. Forever.
