They had hoped that Tonks' ability would be enough to allow her to withstand Remu's transformation. Last night had proved them wrong. Hermione sat across the infirmary from her former professor and his love, covered in deep scratches from the previous night.

'It's horrible that Professor Lupin finally got to live and then his friends were all ripped away from him. And now when he finally has something to live for, he can't trust himself enough to be with her, and when he does, he tries to bite her,' she sighed as she watched Tonks start to stir. Madame Pomfrey came bustling out of her office to ascertain how the pink-haired witch was doing, and administer the next dose of medicine.

Once finished, Madame Pomfrey came over to check Hermione's arm. "You're free to go, Miss Granger. Next time, let someone else try to hold back a werewolf. You were very lucky to only have gotten scratched!" Hermione nodded as she watched the plump woman hurry back to her office.

She got up and walked over to her friends and smiled at Remus, who glanced down quickly. "I don't blame you at all, Professor," she said quietly. "We all knew the risks of what we were doing. Life has been very kind to you. Look at the size of your family. You have Tonks, and Harry, and of course Sirius, The Weasleys and myself for starters. Isn't that what truly matters?"
