Liberty. Equality. Brotherhood. The French said that. They're the three main utopias of life. Liberty came first, with the freeing of the slaves, human rights, the Declaration of Independence, et cetera, et cetera. Then came Equality, which happened in the late 20th century, with women getting the right to vote, getting paid equally, getting treated equally. There is little racism left in our world now. And thanks to strong women, there is little sexism left too. But what about the rest of us? You know what I'm talking about. The mutants. Those who aren't considered human. We've tried for years, and failed. Mutating humans, sticking a bridge between Alkatraz and the rest of the world (er, well sort of), trying to kill humans using one of my oldest friend's mutations. We were abusing our gifts. I was abusing my gift. I was killing people. I am a murderer. I am a terrorist. I am...I am just Eric Lensherr, trying to get used to the fact that I'm not Magneto anymore. So where were we? Oh, yes. Brotherhood. I tried to create a Brotherhood of mutants, where everyone stood up against humans and annihilated everyone in our way. Too many good people were killed. Scott Summers was murdered by Jean Grey, his own wife. She killed many innocents, too. But she made the right choice. Instead of living with the fact that she could, and probably would, kill again, she chose death. Of course, if you know Jean's history, she's probably not dead, just waiting in some deep, dark recess, getting more and more powerful, waiting for the day when she can safely return to her life. If she can return to her life. The loss of a loved one has powerful effects on people. So, back to Brotherhood. Liberty and Equality lead to Brotherhood. And that is what I, Eric Lensherr, want more than anything.
