"A beaver."

"Yeah."

"A beaver."

"What? It's a respectable creature."

"Mike, you can't be serious."

"Why not?"

"Because it's a fucking beaver."

"So? Matthew likes them."

"Case in point. Matt is weird. He likes hockey and maple leaves. Hockey, Mike."

New York glared at America. "I still like beavers."

America groaned. "Come ON. There's way better animals out there that can be your state animal!"

"Like what?"

"Like, I dunno, a lion!"

"…Lions are native to Africa."

"…Okay, fine, be that way."

"I don't see what's so bad about beavers."

"They're not AMERICAN, Mike."

"Yes they are."

"No, see, they're Canadian and—" New York just gave him a blank stare. "Okay, so they're American. But they're not cool enough for you, Mike."

"Oh really? And what would be 'cool enough for me'?" America pouted. "The beaver is going to be my state animal, Alfred."

"Fine, fine, I see how it is. You like your uncle more than me. You guys bond over beavers and all we have his baseball. I see where your loyalties lie."

New York sighed and rolled his eyes. "I never said I liked Matthew more. You're just overreacting like you always do."

"I do not overreact!" There was a pause and then a sigh. "Okay, maybe I do. But you're part of me. Don't I have a right to overreact sometimes?"

The brunette smiled slightly. "You do. And hey, at least I don't have a state demon dog like Mandy."

"You mean Johnny?" America laughed. "I love that little guy!"

New York shuddered. "It's possessed by some evil spirit that Arthur knows, I'm sure."

America laughed. "You just say that because you're scared of dogs."

"No, just that one."

"Suuuure, and yet you welcome the buck-toothed menace into your state with open arms."

Little facts:

- the American beaver is New York's state animal. Yeah, I couldn't believe it either .__.

- New York and Canada share a border and get along pretty well. Naturally, America feels a little jealous.

- Massachusetts' state dog is the Boston Terrier, who's mentioned here ^_^

- NY has no pet. It's not that he doesn't like animals, he just doesn't have the patience to take care of one. He is terrified of MA's dog, btw ;D
