Twas the night before Christmas, and all throughout Hogwarts. Not a wizard was stirring, not even Peeves the Poltergeist. The house cups were hung in front of the Professor's table with care. In hopes that Luna Lovegood would soon be there.

The students were nestled all snug in their beds. While visions of chocolate frogs danced in their heads. The other boys in their pajamas and I with my glasses. Had settled down for a long winter's nap.

When out in the hall there arose a large clatter. I sprang from my bed to see what was the matter. Away to the common room, I apparated in a flash. I threw open the portrait and let out a gasp.

The halls were covered in a magical snow and it shined in all the colors of the rainbow. When what to my wandering eyes should appear. Was a small carriage and eight tiny thestrals.

When young little driver, so lively and quick. I knew in a moment it must be Luna. More rapid eagles, her thestrals they came, and she whistled and shouted their names.

"Now Sally! Now Kicky Now Alex and Cutie! On Vulture! On Midnight! On Scarlet and Tootie! Through all the classrooms! To the great hall! Now dash away! Dash away! Dash away all!"

And in a twinkling I was by the door. Behind me were the thestrals, all pawing their hoofs. As I walked into the hall and turned around, in came Luna. All joyful and proud.

She was dressed in all fur. From her head to her foot, and her robes were covered in feathers and soot. A bundle of gifts, she flung off her back. She looked like a peddler who just opened her sack!

Her skin—how it shinned! Her eyes, how crazed! Her cheeks were like roses, and her nose like a cherry! Her cute little mouth was in a small humble smile. And her long, silky hair was as white as snow. Her little wand was behind her ear, and shout out sparks so loudly that even the deaf could hear. She had a strange necklace and weird little bracelets. That shook when she laughed, like a bowl full of jello.

She was tall and slender, a right jolly young elf. And I found myself laughing in spite of myself. With a wink of her eye and a large dreamy smile, soon gave me a sign that I had nothing to dread.

She spoke not a word, and went straight to work. And filled all the house cups , then turned with a jerk. And her finger on the side of her nose, she gave me a nod and skipped out the great hall.

She jumped in her carriage, and gave her team a whistle. They ran down the hall like a dog sleigh team. But I her Luna say, as she went out of sight. "Merry Christmas to all! And to all a nargle free night!"

The very next morning, the students ran to the great hall in glee. To see what Luna Lovegood had left them that night. A cauldron for Snape, and pranks for the Weasley twins. A new broom for Ron, and Hermione got her black ballpoint pens.

Only one student wasn't happy that day. A snooty Sltherin by the name of Draco Malfoy. When he looked into the cup for an expensive gift. He only found a mountain of coal. Dumbledore gave and all knowing smile and looked at me with a twinkle in his eye.
