Words Left Unspoken
Whoever knew a simple smile could mean so much
Especially to someone unable to touch
Seeing the joy light up her face
A memory no one can erase
The sound of her laugh, the tears in her eyes
Long suppressed emotions deep inside
A glimmer of hope, humanity revealed
Her harsh exterior used as a shield
To protect her heart from everyone
Claiming to want the love of none
She is a Mord-Sith to the core
A living weapon in the battle she fights for
But it's times like these when it all melts away
When she speaks words she usually dare not say
It's vulnerability she's afraid of
The crazy-insane notion of love
Despite her denial time and again
Cara has become my closest friend
She wont admit it but it's clear to see
How much she truly cares about me
A baby night wisp lands to whisper in my ear
Something from her deceased mother she did over hear
There was no one Cara was supposed to hate more than me
And no one I was supposed to confess more than she
Yet as I listen to the whispers of a magical being
One that is all-knowing and all-seeing
I discover the truth the wisp did confide
The truth in Cara's eyes she cannot hide
The love she feels but doesn't express
Her heart a conflicting mess
Between her teachings and this feeling
Sending her mind reeling
I drape an arm around her shoulder
A touch she's not used to; someone to hold her
She flinches away before relaxing into me
Helping to set her hidden emotions free
I lean over towards her face
Moving a strand of her hair back in place
I whispered softly, "I love you too."
She smiled back, as if she already knew.
