Enjoy the Present Moment

The sun was setting. The orange and pink hue gradually darkens as the stars started to appear. Yuki was at the training ground, practicing her accuracy and taijitsu. Infusing her last kunai with chakra, she aimed and threw it at the already "wounded" tree.

Tired, Yuki plopped herself on the grass. She suddenly winced in pain and clutched her left shoulder. With her eyes closed, she listened to nature's music. The crickets and frogs formed a harmonious symphony with the breeze blowing against the leaves. Just then, footsteps interrupted the melodious music.

"I guess it's bothering you again? You've used too much chakra on your sharingan." A voice said as a figure emerged from the shadows.

Yuki looked up and saw Neji beside her, staring at her with his pale grey eyes. "So what if it is?" Yuki retorted as she stood up to face Neji. Neji shrugged with his hands in his pockets.

The moon was full and round in the sky. The light from the moon pierced through the canopy of leaves and reflected on Neji's face. Yuki blushed. She had a crush on Neji ever since the last Chunin exam (after Naruto had left). Breaking the silence, Yuki nervously said it was late and she had to leave.

"Chotto…ma matte! (Wait!)" Neji spluttered, grabbing Yuki's arm. "I've got something for you."

Yuki turned around and Neji placed a beautifully hand crafted wooden box into her hands. Neji blushed and prompted Yuki to open the gift. Opening the box, Yuki found a leather bracelet inside. A charm hung on the leather strap. All of it looked hand made.

"It's beautiful. What's the occasion?" Yuki asked.

"I know it's kind of late. But it is your birthday present. I made it myself." Neji murmured.

"Arigato (Thank you)." Yuki smiled. "Kaka Nii-san (Kakashi) might be getting worried, I better go."

"I'll walk you back." Neji offered.

Taking Yuki by her hand, Neji walked with her out of the training grounds. The crickets and frogs started their symphony again. Yuki looked into the skies and the stars shone brightly. From that day onwards, no music or sonata had ever been so sweet and the stars had never been brighter……

……"It must be the power of love mother used to tell me about." Yuki whispered with a sigh.
