Dedication: for sasusaku month
Prompt: Chance meetings, home.
Summary: Home is where the heart is. For Sasuke, that's not so.
…
It's been a year. One whole year. Sasuke has stayed outside of Konoha. Nothing has really changed. He'd come back every once and while, but as Naruto would say, "One second he'll be there, one second he won't." And it was true. Sakura was walking back down to his home, the Uchiha part of town. Sasuke had moved back into the Uchiha part of town, wanting to be alone.
And she slowly walked down the village, looking and the shops and homes that had, so long ago, been abandoned. Sasuke had told them the truth about Itachi. He didn't want to talk anymore about it. Some of the homes were beginning to break down from lack of care. Dark clouds began to drift overhead.
The pink haired seventeen year old, looking up at the overcast sky, quickly jogged to Sasuke's house, and took cover there. Sakura would come to his house every few days or so and clean up the dust. Wiping the dirt off on the carpet next to the door, she took her shoes off, and looked around. No other shoes here. Sasuke wasn't here. She mentally sighed, and walked inside.
She didn't want Sasuke to know who cleaned his house, much less know why. Sakura didn't really know why. She just felt the need to. "Why are you in my house?" said a husky voice from behind her. An electric shock passed through her, and she said, "Why did you do scare me, Sasuke." Sasuke, helping her up, said, "Why are you in my house?" Sakura blushed just a little, and mumbled something incoherent. "I'm sorry?" "To clean." Sasuke sighed. "It's pouring out. You want to stay over?" Sakura nodded.
Minutes passed. Hours passed. Nothing had changed. Sasuke was quiet, and he looked outside often, but Sakura would never know what he'd be thinking of. "Where have you been?" The words flew out of her mouth. "Hn." Sakura persisted. "Where? We're worried. All of Team 7." Sasuke spared a glance at her. "It's only a burden to know." Sakura dropped the subject.
The rain had finally ended it's downpour. Sakura was just about ready to leave. "Am I going to see you tomorrow?" Sasuke shrugged. Sighing, Sakura turned on her foot, and headed out into the drizzling rain. "Wait." Sakura turned around, and found a soft pair of lips caressing hers, with a calloused hand to her cheek. Sasuke, turned around and walked into his house. Sakura blushing, squinted and saw just a faint blush on his cheeks.
And somehow, she knew where he was going, but she'd never tell. Because Konoha isn't really his home, it's an escape to an illusion of a perfect world. But Sasuke doesn't crave that. Because really, Konoha isn't his home.
It isn't where his heart is.
…
Because home is where the heart is.
…
a/n: it's up to you to decide where he's been going.
