Disclaimer: Lemme see...no, the X-men doesn't belong to me. Neither do the title since that one is stolen from Nine Inch Nails.
Archive: Ask first and I'll say yes.
Feedback: For this?
Author's notes: I'm suffering from a severe writers block here and this is a sort of attempt to cure it. It will probably suck just because of that. Anyway, saw and heard this older Nine Inch Nails song with a title that just called out to me...the fic has nothing to do with either the lyrics to the song or Nine Inch Nails, just to make that clear. Well, part of the lyrics are used...Anyway...here we go.
Warning: A tad dark...

It's a terrible lie. It truly is. That the world is an equal place, that it's you yourself that decides your happiness or fate.

It's something fucking idealists like Xavier believe in, people that keep on wearing the rose-coloured glasses no matter how many times reality kicks you down or try to kill off your friends.

It's so easy for him and Jean to say that we're blessed with gifts. They can hide amongst the normal people with no one being the wiser of what they are. Would they still call it a gift when cursed with deadly skin, wings, blue fur or a tail? Things not easily hidden.

Not fucking likely. Cowards and hypocrites! Xavier always tell us to not be ashamed of what we are. Really? Is that why he doesn't tell the world he is a mutant? And why he lies and try to think the Mansion is just a ivy league boarding school?

I really don't know what you mean
Seems like salvation comes
Only in our dreams
I feel my hatred grow all the more extreme
Can this world really be as sad as it seems?

At least Magneto is honest. I still have issues with him wanting to use me as a living battery but it made me learn some things when I was forced to absorb some of his memories and knowledge.

Violence. It's not something to aim for but some times it is the only way. This is one of those occassions. If we don't strike back we're soon hunted down like vermin.

I didn't realize that right off but after some thinking about it, I realized I'm more leaning towards his way of doing things than Xavier's.

There's nothing left for me to hide
I lost my ignorance, security, and pride
I'm all alone in a world you must despise
I believed your promises
Your promises and lies

He's honest too and knows what it takes to force a change.

Sacrifices. Something Xavier is not ready to admit, not even to himself. Which is why his plan will never work. The mansion and the X-men won't make a difference for anything.

Except for getting people killed. Like John. Or Kurt.
Or severly hurt and never get full control of their own body ever again - like Warren.

So I'm sorry Professor. This is not how I want things to work. Seeing friends and people being killed for no good reason. Laying down their lives for what is only a dream. A dream that can't come true your way.

Dreaming is good but don't use it as a way of living. You need to be more pragmatic than that. That's why I'm leaving. I'm off more use to achieve what you want with the Brotherhood and if you are honest with yourself you will see that too.

Not that I think you will ever see that.

And if that makes me a terrorist in the eyes of the law, so be it. It's a small sacrifice to make if it keep my friends alive.

You made me throw it all away
My morals left to decay
How many you betray
You've taken everything

I guess I can be seen as a traitor or someone with no morals. Well, maybe I am. In your eyes. Not in mine and for those that believe in fighting for the good cause with whatever means necessary.

Maybe we will once again see eachother again without being on different sides during the fight. I don't know. Hopefully but I won't hold my breath.

I do what I have to do and you do what you have to do.

Goodbye
