A\N: My first one shot, hope you like it!

"Why did you come here, John?" Elena asked him.

"I came to protect you."

She snorted. "From what?"

"Yourself. Don't you see, Elena?"

She eyed him suspiciously. Jenna could see she didn't believe a word he said. She shouldn't. Jenna had learned that the hard way. Jenna moved to the side to see John through the opening of the door. She knew she shouldn't spy, but she didn't want Elena to fall into the same trap she had. John didn't care for her. He didn't care for anyone.

"See what?"

He sighed. "I will protect you. Whether you want me to or not."

Elena took a step closer to John, looking him straight in the eyes. "I don't. I don't need your protection." She left.

John's gaze followed her. He was her father, but she made it clear she would never be his daughter.

Jenna walked into the kitchen. She was pretty damn irritated by John. She had never fully forgiven him for what he did to her.

"Why are you here John?"

"You were listening?"

"Learned that from you." Jenna started packing the dishwasher as she waited for John's answer.

"I told you, I'm here for my daughter."

"I don't believe that."

"Why not? What have I ever done to..." Jenna turned to face John.

"Don't. You. Dare." Jenna was fuming, ready to explode. "Don't you dare pretend like you're innocent. Like you never hurt anyone, because we both know damn well you have."

"I'm sorry."

She slapped him through the face.

"No you're not. You know I know you're not and yet you still say that. You still try to smooth it over like it's nothing."

He touched his cheek gingerly. "You always knew how to hold a grudge, Jenna."

She shook her head. "You just don't get it do you? I don't want you here. No one does. You know that but you still come back with a different excuse every time."

"No." He interrupted her.

"No what?"

"It's not a different reason every time." He takes a step closer to her. "It's for one reason and one reason only. He strokes her check. "It always has been."

Jenna didn't know what to say. The electricity when he touched her was still there. The same electricity as in the one night stand that still burned in the back of her mind. She had lost her virginity for John and he left her as soon as he had gotten what he wanted. The one thing she had never forgiven him for, because she had never gotten over it. She had searched the rest of her life for that electricity, but had never found it. Not with Jason, not with Logan, or even with Alaric. She was never as satisfied as John had made her.

"Don't do this to me again." She begged.

"I won't leave you."

His lips came down on hers roughly. She kissed him back because she couldn't resist. He was the one man who she could never resist. He pulled her closer into his arms. Maybe she was doomed to make the same mistake. She didn't care. She had long wanted his lips against hers and this was it. He picked her up in his arms and carried her upstairs. She had no control when it came to him and he knew it.

She woke.

She knew he would not be beside her, yet she still checked.

She was right.

She lay looking up at the ceiling. What had she done? She heard a knock on the door and quickly got dressed to answer it. Maybe that was him. Maybe he didn't leave her this time. Maybe he just went to buy breakfast. She ran downstairs to answer it eagerly.

When she opened the door she stared at her boyfriend, Alaric. "I bought us breakfast." He smiled. Jenna smiled back, wanting to cry inside, knowing her love for Alaric would never return.
