Seeing Red

Spinelli's words rang through Maxie's head. "Is it possible that Maximista is experiencing a..twinge of jealousy?" She had denied it,of course. Had told him that she was concerned and suspicious, which was partly true of wouldn't lie to him about something like that...but she had been lying when she'd said that she wasn't jealous. She couldn't deny the pain that shot through her when Spinelli was all happy and smiling with that---freaky stalker geek. She'd never had to share Spinelli with anyone! Not LuLu nor Leyla, who were both friends of his and she knew that Leyla liked Spinelli alot. She'd told Maxie that she had a crush on him months ago. He'd never shown such a great amount of interest in them from what she'd seen in the almost year that they'd been friends. But Winnifred was different.

She sighed and took a sip of her strawberry iced tea. Who'd have thought that Maria Maximilliana Jones would ever admit to jealousy? And to be jealous of a girl like Winnifred?! A girl who wouldn't know a thing about fashion even if it were to come up and bite her in the butt? But Winnifred and Spinelli could connect in a way that she and Spinelli couldn't. About poetry, sonnets, computers, and Shakespeare. Things Maxie wasn't too well equip with the knowledge of. Things that Damian Millhouse Spinelli marveled in the beauty of.

Spinelli walked out of the bathroom slowly, giving her a boyish grin that made her heart melt inside of her chest. He was perfect and he made her feel like she was the most beautiful woman in the world, like she wasn't this complete screw up and that she could do anything she put her mind to. She WANTED to be better because of him,she wanted to earn his trust more and more each day. It was a hunger she had to strive to be a better, stronger person. And she was grateful. If Georgie's death had created anything remotely good,it was the friendship that had evolved between them after her death. She'd inherited a precious gift from her beloved sister and she'd do her best to ensure that it was kept safe.

And so as much as she wanted to confess to Spinelli that she had infact been jealous...she couldn't. Because as much as she yearned for a romance with Spinelli, she knew she'd only hurt him in the end. So she'd stand by and try to be happy with just being his best friend.

The End
