Knight in Shining Armor

Yoh hated Mondays.

This fact was further reinforced by the jagged end of a torn-off metal pipe, wavering between his eyes. If he hated Mondays, than they sure hated him back.

"Let's not be messy," the man who seemed to think himself the leader ordered. Yoh closed his eyes.

"I've got like a thousand yen* on me," he said dryly, "Honestly, why bother?"

"That's it?" the second of the three men parroted incredulously. Yoh took out his wallet, flapping it around.

"Unless you'd care for my student I.D., yeah. That's it." He tossed the money at them, then quickly hid the wallet away again. Haruna had given it to him, after all.

"Hey, look at his clothes," the last one spoke up, voice like a car on gravel, "I bet you he's a rich kid."

"Can I just go?" Yoh asked hopefully, "I'm running late."

"We're desperate criminals here, punk. Now shut up or I'll screw you up so bad, your own mother won't be able to identify the body."

Yoh shut up, slightly freaked.

"Maybe we could hold him for ransom?" one of the thugs suggested, and then made a kind of braying noise before crashing into the gritty alley wall.

Yoh just stared. He got a vaguely sinking feeling in his stomach.

"Yoh!" Haruna cried, posing like she was Super Woman or something, "I've come to save you!"

Yoh face faulted as Haruna vigorously attacked the thugs who had previously harassed him, screaming things like, "His face? You were going to screw up his face?! What's the matter with you?!"

"You want to see a movie or something?" she cheeped, cheerfully slipping her hand into his own. Yoh stared at her, then massaged his temples.

"That is so not cute."

He absolutely did not regret it when her face fell. Sighing, he tugged her along behind him, "Let's go. I'm sorry I made you wait."

It was a pretty good thing that he had no intention of breaking up with her. She could totally kick his ass.
