I hated winter.

I hate it even more when you don't have heat.

The snow fell thickly outside - not that we needed more of it. Anytime I dared to set foot on the snow covered landscape, I'd sink into the white fluff, right up to my waist. It was horrible. And it was freezing.

I didn't have school for two weeks. I was glad of it too. Not only did I hate winter, I hated school too. When will I ever need to know what the square root of twenty-four is? Never.

I hope.

I stood by the big glass window in the kitchen. All our furniture is made of the same plushy material - the kind you sink into when you sit on it. If you sat the right way though, you'd find it rather comfortable. It was all either velvet or white, scrunched together near a fire pit. A TV hung over it, and I was always worried it would fall and then - BOOM! CRASH!

No more TV.

But it never happened, not in the three years we've had it anyways.

I sigh, fogging up the window slightly. I force my numb legs to do a little shuffle, and sit on a velvet couch, bringing my knees to my chest.

"Cold?"

I jumped, gazing around only to see my sister, Sapphire, standing in the doorway at the top of the stairs. I sighed. "Gods, Saph, you scared me."

"Sorry.." mumbled Saph, tredding lightly down the stairs and sitting beside me. "What're you doing, Viv?"

I shrugged. "Trying to stay alive."

"It's not that cold, Vivian."

I frowned, looking at my sister. "Says you. You're wearing like... six coats."

Saph frowned as well. "No. I'm wearing three shirts, a sweater and a hoodie."

"Fine. Five coats."

"Ugh."

I laughed, rolling my eyes. "How's 8th grade turning out for you?"

Saph looked at me. "Seriously? They need to put showers in school. Everyone smells like sweat after lunch."

This got me to laugh. "Yeah?"

"Yeah. You're so lucky to be a sophomore."

"Highschool sucks, Saph. Believe me."

"Says you. You dyed your hair purple."

"It's not that bad," I said, fingering my hair. In 8th grade, I was a little older then my sister when I dyed my hair. I got bored of being.. me. I figured it wouldn't hurt. Now I sport dark purple hair, that rests about half-an-inch under my shoulder. I've become quite fond of it.

"You should of kept it brown." Saph said, looking me up and down skeptically with her green eyes.

I started to laugh, then froze and looked at my sister. Because I had realized something. My sister... didn't have green eyes.
