D's sword glistened in the candle light of the castle. The blood on the blade cast an eerie, pale red glow on the room. This was indeed a worthy opponent, Sage Talban, a young but well trained vampire.

"Damn you Dhampiel…damn you." Sage said wiping the blood from his mouth.

"Not bad…yourself, kid." D said with a grin on his face.

They had been at it for a good thirty minutes now, exchanging blows and insults with each other. The walls of the room were covered in fine paintings and had many suits of armor lining the walls. Although, most of the armor had fallen apart when one of them landed on it, and the paintings were tainted with blood from their wounds.

"I can't believe that you, the most hated vampire hunter, have his blood flowing through your veins. The blood of our master!" Sage shouted as he charged D again.

"Believe it…BOY!" D raised his sword and caught Sage in the shoulder.

Sage jumped back off the sword and wiped the sweat from his forehead. It was obvious Sage wasn't going to win like this. He stood up from his crouched position and brushed his black hair out of his eyes. His green eyes burning with hate toward the Dhampiel.

"You will never be like us you freak!" Sage shouted.

"Freak?" D smiled at this, "HAHA! Look at you! At least I'm part human, you parasite."

"Parasite?" Sage grew furious at this comment, "HOW DARE YOU CALL US PARASITES!"

"Well, you are. You feed on the blood of the living in order to preserve your existence."

"We are not like those lowly, filthy creatures. We are the highest evolution of any living thing." D could see Sage grew in pride as he said these words. "We are…perfect."

"Humph…" D snorted at this comment, "Hardly."

D renewed his attack against the vampire, bringing his sword blade chest level, aiming right for the heart. Sage jumped over D to dodge the blade, but D interpreted this. After all, he was the best vampire hunter ever; he knew everything. D countered with a back flip and drove the blade threw Sages' back.

"AARRGGHH!!" Sage shouted and writhed in pain on the floor. Blood oozed from the wound and dripped from the corner of his mouth.

"No one is perfect." D said coldly as he stabbed Sage yet again; this time right threw the heart.

Sage yelped in pain a final time, his eyes widened from the painful blow. He vomited up blood and then fell limp. D withdrew his sword from the body and knelt next to Sage. He placed his hand on the vampires neck. No pulse. He always checked, vampires had a way of surviving even the most fatal attacks. As extra insurance he decapitated the body and carried it out of the small castle with him.

The house was warm and cozy. D looked around, it looked so similar to her house. All the memories came back to him in a flood of images and sounds. The monsters, the castle, the vampires, the death. D pressed one of his hands against the mantle.

"Doris…"

D looked into the fireplace, the head was ablaze now. Now he felt at ease, because Sage was not coming back; he was positive now. D turned toward the couch and adjusted his hat.

"You did quite well today," a voice said.

"Yes… he was quite good though."

"Well… he was trained by the best martial artist before he turned." The voice responded. D sat down on the couch and unsheathed his sword.

"To bad he let his rage cloud his judgment," D responded.

"Yes…that is the problem with your kind. Always getting emotional."

"Be quite, now." D said sharply while wiping the dried blood from the sword blade.

"I will…as soon as you get this glove off! It's hot in here." The voice shouted.

D sighed and removed the glove. A smile formed on the hand as the fresh, cool air wrapped around him. D just looked at the hand as it sat there content. He went back to cleaning the blade up.
