Title: Glass Bird

Rating: PG

Disclaimer: Not mine.  Created by the flannel wonder that is George Lucas.  I just screw with them a bit.  'Tis fun.

Summary: (Pre-TPM.  Obi-Wan is 14.)  Obi-Wan breaks one of his Master's prized possessions.

A/N: Yay.  Short fic.  Because I felt like writing a pre-TPM filk.  And some Yoda.  Gotta love the Yoda.  I've just been too lazy to put this up until now.  :\  So.  Enjoy, you.

[Oh, um, Gardens.  In the Room of a Thousand Fountains.  Meaning the greenhouse.  Garden sounds nicer.]

Obi-Wan ran through the Gardens as fast as he could, while throwing up his mental shields.  'Master Qui-Gon's going to be so upset with me,' he thought worriedly.  'Once he finds out that I broke it…"  He didn't even want to think about it.

Finally, he reached the far end of the Gardens, and he slumped down behind a large patch of bright yellow and red flowers.

Obi-Wan knew that eventually, someone would find him; but thus far, no one knew that his favorite spot to go when he needed to be alone was in this spot in the Gardens.  He didn't know what he was going to say when he was found, but he didn't want to face his Master quite yet either.

He had been sitting there for nearly ten minutes when he heard an odd humming sound.  He peeked around the flowers, and saw Master Yoda slowly walking his way, eyes closed and a smile on his face.  Obi-Wan tried to stand and get away from there so he wouldn't have to face Master Yoda, but instead, he tripped over himself and landed in a big heap right in the middle of Yoda's path.

At the sound of something fall, Yoda snapped his eyes open.

"Padawan Kenobi, in my way you are."

Obi-Wan pulled himself into a sitting position.  "I apologize, Master Yoda.  I got tripped up."

"Out in the gardens you are for what reason?" Yoda questioned.

Obi-Wan sighed.  "I… I… I broke something of Master Qui-Gon's.  Something important to him."

Yoda smacked the young Padawan on the shins with his gimmer stick.

"Ow!" exclaimed Obi-Wan, rubbing his shins gently.

"Not know why, do you, young Padawan?"

Obi-Wan was a little confused.  "Because I broke something of Master Qui-Gon's?" he guessed, hoping that he was right.

Yoda shook his head and smacked his shins again.

'Apparently that wasn't the right answer,' Obi-Wan thought as he rubbed his sore shins again.

"Run away from your problem you did.  Face them good Jedi do."

"But, Master Yoda!  This was –"  Obi-Wan was cut off by Yoda smacking his sore shins again.  He cursed inwardly.

"No buts are there, Padawan Kenobi.  Face your Master, you must."

Obi-Wan looked down.  "It was the glass bird that I broke.  The glass bird that Master Qui-Gon received after his first solo mission, to Alderaan.  He told me the story once.  It meant so much to him!"

"Afraid he won't forgive, you are."

Obi-Wan nodded glumly.  "Yes, Master Yoda."

"Master Qui-Gon I know.  Forgive you he will.  But get going you should."  To reinforce his statement, he gave a final smack to Obi-Wan's shin.

Obi-Wan took the shorter Jedi Master's hint, and rose to his feet.  "I'm sorry, Master Yoda."

"Not the one to apologize to am I.  On you be going now!"

"Thank you, Master Yoda!" Obi-Wan said, bowing to him, then turning and heading back towards the apartments of the Temple.

Yoda chucked and watched the young Padawan as he walked back to talk with Qui-Gon.  When he had disappeared from his sight, Yoda continued along his previous path, beginning once more to hum the same tune he had been before.
