Chance looked around the garage he was in and sighed heavily. It was just another day in Megakat City, as he and Jake fixed Callie's car for what felt to be the millionth time that month. As least, it should have just been another day for him, except something was bothering him, and distracting him from his work. Finally landing his attention at the TV, he noticed it was turned to the news station today, and images of the turbokat flashed by as Ann Gorra went on about the recent attack on the city, where the Swat Kats helped catch Hard-Drive once again. He wasn't paying enough attention to the low volume on the TV to fully hear what the female was saying, but if he had to guess, hes say that she was going on about the secret identities of the Swat Kats, just like everyone else in the city did from time to time.
"Hey, hand me that wrench." Jake said suddenly without looking up from the inside of the car, and simply holding out his hand.
When the red kat didn't feel the metal tool, he rolled his eyes and tried again for his friend's attention, this time by snapping his fingers a few times. When that didn't work, he finally looked up and around for his friend, deciding to get his attention the old fashioned way.
"Chance!" He called to him again, finally looking over at the other kat and rolling his eyes yet again.
"Hm..." It was a simple grunt from the blonde tabby, and while it was a reaction, it only furthered Jake's suspicion that he wasn't focused on the car.
"CHANCE!" Jake screamed, trying in a final effort to get his friend's attention.
"Um, what?" Chance asked lazily, turning around and just now realizing his name was being called.
"Oh never mind, I'll get it myself..." Jake muttered, reaching for the wrench and making a final comment before he went back to fixing the car. "You've been distracted every time we turn on the news lately, whats up with you?"
"How long can we keep this secret?" Chance asked suddenly, sounding more serious than ever.
"What? The fact you still believe in Santa?" Jake snickered, trying to lighten the mood a bit but failing.
"I'm serious! Other Kats are gonna find out we're the Swat Kats soon enough, and then what?" Chance exclaimed, not at all intrigued by his friends comment about Santa.
"Well, I don't know... I try not to think about stuff like that. The Enforcers would probably put a bounty out on our heads, so I guess we would have to stop playing super heroes and run." Jake stated, trying not to start an argument, but his mood was turning bitter rather quickly.
"But Swat Kats is what brought us closer as friends, and we're protecting people... Which, when they thank us... I don't know, it feels really special." Chance said almost dumbly, flashing back quickly to all the thanks they gotten over the past few months. "Back when we were Enforcers, we were just two other faces in the crowd... Remember?"
"Well, I don't know, Chance. Lets enjoy it while it lasts" Jake assured his friend with a soft smile as he set the tool down.
With a heavy sigh, the red kat went over and joined his friend near the TV. They were both silent, letting only the sounds of the broadcast fill their silence. Just then, a news brief flashed across the TV, causing both males to lean in a little closer, now fully focused on the TV and nothing else.
"This is Ann Gora with a special news brief! Turmoil has escaped from prison, WE NEED THE SWAT KATS!" She cried in her professional reporter voice, though it did nothing to mask her panic.
"Hear that Chance?" Jake said, looking at his friend, who was already getting into uniform.
"Let's go!" Chance, now T-Bone, replied to his friend with a smile, and with that they fled to protect the city.
The Swat Kats had had their fair share of close calls and false alarms, and as they flew over the location where Turmoil had last been seen, it seemed like today would be one of those calls. The sight of the old jail showed that the building possessed very little damage, except for one jail cell window that was lacking its bars. It was obvious that this was just a simple jail break, that could probably have been handled by the Enforcers. Still, for the protection and peace of mind of the citizens, the Swat Kat's decided to stay a while.
"Geez, by the way Ann was wailing, I could have sworn that Turmoil had taken over the skies again." Razor muttered with a shake of the head.
"Not that I blame her... I wouldn't want that crazy she-kat back on the streets either." T-Bone sighed, leaning back in his seat and rolling his eyes a little at the thought.
"Still, its kind of nice knowing that Ann trusted us with catching your 'ex-girlfriend' more than the Enforcers." Razor mused a little.
"Shut it, and its probably because the last time Turmoil attacked, she sent the Enforcers to the hospital and had to be taken down by us." T-Bone recalled with a roll of the eyes, looking over the area of the jail break once again. "Well, I'm not seeing much of anything here, so are you ready to head back?"
Razor was just about to answer, when suddenly the radio inside of the Turbokat began to buzz, signalling that another radio was trying to read theres. Frowning a bit, the two kats turned to their radio system and clicked it on to see who was calling.
"Swat Kats, this is Lieutenant Feral. Can you hear me?" The female's voice came through the radio, sounding a little less formal than it normally did.
"We hear you, whats up?" T-Bone replied, then waited with Razor for a reply.
"Not much of anything. Just finishing up over here and then headed back to the city." She replied, a shrug being sensed even though the kats couldn't see it. "Just a jail break call."
"Then you must be as bored as we are." T-Bone snickered as Razor rolled his eyes.
"Why else would I have called you two?" She laughed, but then suddenly sounded serious again at what she said next. "But in all seriousness, could you two swing by before you head back? The Deputy Mayor and I have something we want to talk to the two of you about."
