One Selfless Act

Spoiler for AXM #24. No still don't own them.
"Keep Going! McCoy! Gaahhh!"
Hank stood over the memorial. She had never really been a part of the team, but her actions during the crisis earned her place there. He still didn't understand why she had taken that hit for him.
"Brand!" He cried, running to her crumpled body. The large, gaping hole in her chest gave mute evidence to what she had done.
"Get to…the missile," she gasped.
He sank to the ground, placing the flowers he had gathered on the memorial. They had been unable to bring her back with them.
"Why'd you take that hit?" he asked. The shattered left lens of her emerald colored glasses allowing him to look into her eye.
"You're supposed to be a genius, Tabby. Be a genius and disarm the missile! Save the damn world all ready…" her voice trailed off and her eyes closed. He reached out his hand to touch her, let her know she wasn't alone as she died before he rose and followed his team.
"She loved you, you know," Emma's voice sounded behind him. He turned to her, the wind picking up her cloak.
"I'm glad SWORD gave us this plaque. Without her help Earth would be gone." He sighed. She had been smart and a smart allek. She was also tough, abrasive, and without much in the way of morals. Say what you like about Brand, once she committed herself, she did so wholehardedly. Sydren had commented that the only thing that had kept her from seeing this through was the gun shot meant for Hank. "What do you mean…" his voice trailed off.
"You two fought like an old married couple," Emma replied, coming closer to him. "In the end she became a hero. One the world will never know. We will."
"Yeah, we will," Hank whispered, vowing to never forget this extraordinary woman.
Sorry, Brand was, to say the least, a less than sympathetic character. She did what she had to do. I just wish they'd told us what was under that glove!
