I'm currently reading 'Broken Homes' and on page 24 there's a conversation that kinda threw Walid/Nightingale at me. From one moment to the other^^
I hope you like it, tell me what you think!
They Have A Name For What We Are
It wasn't Dr. Abdul Walid's habit to listen to other people's conversations, but when he walked past the kitchen of the Folly and heard his name he couldn't help but stop, raising an eyebrow in surprise while quietly moving back. Lesley and Peter's voices wafted out of the room to his ears, the two Constables completely unaware of his presence.
"What do you mean, their reactions when you told them about the experiments with Toby were odd?" Lesley asked in a curious voice, interrupted by the noise of the opening and closing of the fridge door.
"They were bickering like an old married couple," Peter elaborated and Abdul frowned. "It was as if they were my parents, arguing about what's best for me."
"Weird."
"Totally. I don't think they were really aware of what they were doing."
Surprise and confusion mingled inside Abdul and he slowly moved away from the kitchen door, trying to get some order into the chaos of thoughts swirling around in his mind. Were Thomas and he really like that?
Sure, they were quite different and tended to have opposite opinions, resulting in them bickering sometimes... he just hadn't thought that it was so obvious.
Like an old married couple...
Somehow this particular description got stuck in his head.
Sure, Thomas and he had known each other for quite some time now, working closely due to the nature of the cases the Folly got... but he hadn't thought that they appeared that familiar with each other.
Though he couldn't deny that this label also felt strangely good to him, and a small smile stole its way onto his face.
