You'll Be Great

Note: *sigh* So I'm *supposed* to be working on writing a birthday present for my Psychfic roomie, Spencer05; but I made the mistake of watching the episode "9 Lives" the other day, and Buzz and Francie have been tugging on my brain for attention ever since. I finally caved and wrote them. It's tiny and random, but I'm pleased with it. I'm in the mood to do more with them...let me know what you think? O:) I'm not sure I've got Francie's voice quite down, but you never see her in the show, so I'm making this up as I go along ;). Enjoy!! :D

It had been a long day for Buzz McNab.

It wasn't as if he wasn't used to Lassiter and his brutally honest and sometimes unfair ways by now; he'd been working with him for several years, and he knew what to expect from the detective. More importantly, he knew what to believe when Lassiter said it. Part of that was thanks to Juliet and her ability to difuse her partner's harsh demeanor; but she'd been working her own case all week, leaving Lassiter free to berate him.

He welcomed the thought of getting home to relax.

"Buzz!" Francie smiled broadly when she opened the door for him, wrapping her arms around him. Buzz sighed and looked into his small wife's face and tried to smile. He must have done a poor job of it, thought, because Francie's eyes clouded over with concern.

"Buzz, what's wrong?" she asked, pulling him inside and shutting the door behind him. "Was Carlton harassing you again?"

"No more than he was anyone else," he said, following her into the kitchen. I just feel it more. "He's been in a bad mood all week because Shawn solved his last case and Detective O'Hara got this special, solo one"

"Yes, but he usually doesn't leave you looking this worn out. What did he say to you?" Buzz avoided her eyes, but couldn't ignore her question.

"Just some stuff about my chances of becoming a detective..." he mumbled. There was no need to elaborate on exactly what. "B-but I understand where he's coming from. He's had a hard week, and he's stressed, and I've kind of been in the way."

"Don't say that," Francie chided, taking his hands and looking up into his face. "You've ust been doing your job. Lassiter finds a way to complain about everything when Shawn solves cases." She squeezed his hands reassuringly. "You are going to make a wonderful detective one day." She smiled, and Buzz couldn't help but smile back. He could never resist that woman's eyes or her smile. She was his strongest weakness.

"I still have a long way to go, though," he admitted.

"Well of course; everyone starts somewhere. But even Lassiter still has room to grow." Buzz considered that for a moment, going through all the things that he admired and disliked about the head detective.

"Well...he could use a little help learning to talk to people a little better." Francie laughed.

"There, you see?" She hugged him. "There's always something. But you're going to be great."
