Jane walked home on cloud nine.
She wasn't even sure how she got home, only that she did.
All she could think about was Maura.
She kissed Maura Isles.
On the mouth.
Just a brief brush of lips, but a kiss by any definition.
And hot damn, what a feeling.
They went on their first official date.
A date!
A real, honest to god, date.
With Maura fucking Isles.
The woman of her dreams. Literally.
She said yes.
And she let Jane kiss her.
Kissed back.
Jane thought she might explode from the joy rocketing through her.
So she did the only thing she could think of.
As soon as she got home, she called Maura.
"Hello," Maura greeted cheerily.
"I just got back from the best date ever in the history of dates," Jane responded, her words a jumble of breathless glee.
"Oh?" Maura was far more restrained. "With anyone I know?"
Grinning from ear to ear, Jane shifted the phone to her other hand.
"I don't know," she teased. "She's only the most intelligent, hilarious, sexy woman ever to walk the face of the earth."
"I see," Maura sighed dreamily. "I had a rather lovely evening myself."
"You did?" Jane pretended to be unaware.
"Yes," Maura continued. "With the love of my life."
"Did you," Jane swallowed a sudden lump of nervousness she couldn't quite explain. "Did you kiss her goodnight?"
"She kissed me," Maura breathed. "It was… overwhelming. I'm very eager to repeat the experience."
"You want to go on another date?" Jane asked.
"I want you to kiss me again," Maura rasped.
Jane's breath caught.
"That can," she cleared her throat. "I think that can be arranged."
"Good," Maura replied. "I had a wonderful time tonight, Jane."
"Me too," Jane responded, letting the moment linger. She was loathe to hang up, to end the connection. This new, fledgling something between her and Maura was intoxicating.
"I don't want to," Maura broke the silence. "But I really should go to sleep. I'll see you tomorrow?"
"Of course," Jane agreed. "Goodnight, Maura."
"Goodnight, Jane."
Cloud nine didn't even begin to describe it.
