For the third time, in as many minutes, Maes watched his best friend grumble as he angrily threw some breadcrumbs in the direction of the duck pond. Was Roy's anger truly at the ducks? No far from it, Maes knew all too well what had his longtime friend bent out of shape. It had zero to do with the ducks and everything to do with the two blonde men sitting a decent distance away having lunch together.

When the older blond leaned forward to whisper something in the shorter one's ear, a golden head flipped back in laughter and another harsh handful of crumbs made its way into the pond. Maes snatched the bag of dried bread from his friend and when he received a glare in return he said, "Easy Roy, if you don't lighten up you're going to give the ducks a complex."

"I have every right to be pissed, Maes."

"That may be true but don't you think it's about time Havoc reeled in the big one?"

"I'm not saying he doesn't deserve a decent catch, I'm just pissed he got mine."

Maes did his best to stifle his laughter, "Well it's your own fault for not reeling him in when he was dangling on your line."

Roy glared at his friend, "You could at least pretend that you feel sorry for me."

"Oh I do," Maes said as he tossed some crumbs in the pond, "just not a lot."

Roy elbowed Maes and looked up just as the blonde men were leaving. With a sigh, Roy figured Ed would just have to be classified as the one that got away.
