Epic: A Different Beginning
A large hawk sped through the forest. Its rider, a young female, steered the hawk swiftly. The hawk let out a large screech, alarming some rodents that were hiding in the grass. The rider pulled on her hawk's reins as they came closer to a small waterfall. This was her home. Moonhaven, home of Queen Tara and the Leafmen, was where this feisty female was heading. The fearless rider was so concentrated on landing her hawk, in order to impress the queen, that she didn't see the piercing yellow eyes of a Boggan watch her every move.
I landed my hawk onto the small slope where the Leafmen landed their hummingbirds. The Leafmen saw me and backed up as the hawk screeched at them. "Easy, boy, easy…" I said to the agitated kestrel, patting his neck. The Leafmen grasped the reins and led the hawk to a nest. I smiled softly, my soft green eyes shimmering gently against the sun. Ronin, one of the Leafmen, walked up to me and smiled gently. "Nice to see you, Eve." he said, his smile turning into a strict frown. "But you're late. The queen wants to speak with you." Ronin said, turning around. I sighed and followed him into the queen's garden.
Many flowers were growing and the queen stood there, tending to a small plant. She smiled as she saw us. "Ah, Eve. You're here." she said. "Ronin." Tara said, looking at the muscular general. "You're dismissed." she said. Ronin nodded and walked away. "Eve, there have been multiple sightings of Boggans and a few of Mandrake. I have a feeling that he's going to steal one of our pods." she said. I withdrew my sword, the one with a silver handle and three beautiful emeralds pressed into the silver. "You and Ronin are the only ones I can trust with this matter. Ronin will take you Wrathwood. Make sure you're prepared for a battle. You know Mandrake won't give up without a fight." she explained to me. I slid my sword back into the white hilt that was attached to my belt. My emerald eyes flared in excitement. I knelt down and bowed in honor. I had never been to Wrathwood but I did hear stories about it. It was supposed to have rotting trees and dead plants. The creatures that lived there, known as Boggans, wore the skin and bones of the animals that they had killed. I shuddered as I remembered a story about Mandrake. He wore a bat skin cloak and had terrifying red and yellow eyes. He had a son named Dagda, who wore a rat skin cloak. Mandrake was known as the King of Rot. At least that's what I heard. Queen Tara smiled at me and turned around to tend to another drooping plant. I sighed slowly and walked out of the garden, many thoughts swirling around in my head. Will I need Kaiden? Do I have enough weapons? And the worst thought was… will I die?
