There's blood in the water.
There's blood in the water and I'm shaking.
"Chase? Chase?!" No answer and I feel panic rise up my throat.
There's shooting all around and all I can hear is the sound of death.
There's a hand gripping my pants and I look down to a man that is barely more than a corpse.
"K… They're coming… The shadows…" I recognize the face despite the paleness of his skin.
It's Carter and I blanch when I realize the man that slept across from me is dead.
A drowning dead man.
Not a hero, not a hero, a prey to the clutches of war.
A bullet grazes my hand and I'm running.
Splashing ungracefully in the murky water I search for those familiar green eyes.
"K! The mission! We must finish the mission!" It's Anderson and he looks like an angel in a valley of shadows.
Doesn't he realize he's just walked into Hell?
"I can't find Chase!" The words come out of my mouth without consent and he frowns, his eyes shadowed.
"No time for sentimentalisms, K! We've got to finish the mission!" And he's running again.
A bullet reaches him in the back and I watch as the water swallows my dorm mate.
I watch as he becomes a new nameless body, a victim to the water and human violence.
Suddenly, there's an explosion so close, so close that I fall.
I try to get up a few times but the current is strong and I give up.
The seas will swallow me and I'll disappear, it doesn't seem so bad.
I'll be the irony of an everlasting faded memory.
I glance around, barely keeping myself afloat, and I feel tears fill my eyes.
Men from both sides fall, big splashes into the water, and yet…
And yet…
They still come, they keep fighting, even as the grenades fall from the sky like a violent god's judgment.
And I realize finally, what a true Hero means.
I try to get up, I must get up, I can't let myself fall to the war, not before becoming a Hero…
And there is the Grenade.
"K!" Ah, Chase, finally, at least I know you're not dead; my own death will be peaceful now.
My eyes widen when I realize he's running towards me, towards the spot the grenade is deemed to hit.
"No! Chase! Go back! Finish the mission!" My voice is hoarse and I don't know if he didn't hear me or if the idiot decided to ignore me.
It's stupid, because of his own loyalty it'll be two of us to die instead of just one…
And there is the Grenade, I close my eyes ready to receive death, my only regret? That I pulled my only family (Chase) with me to the abysm…
I hear the explosion and it makes no sense because I'm still here, I'm still alive instead of flying into bits.
I look up to Chase, he's standing in front of my slumped form, his arms raised, a ball of electricity around us.
My eyes widen as I understand two things: one, that he is bionic and two, that I couldn't care one bit.
He looks back at me, green eyes shining even as he nervously chews his lip.
"Semper Fidelis, K."
