N: So this thing (a very short thing) is just something I had to get out of my system after the last episode and the big disappointment that came with it…it doesn't make much sense, but hope you'll enjoy it anyway!
As always, thank you Valerie (2serendipity) for your great job on this!
I'll never do
Elena let go of Stefan's hand and immediately ran after Damon.
"Elena…" Stefan called after her.
Elena stopped and looked over her shoulder.
"I have to…go…"
"Elena, he's not stable."
"He's Damon, Stefan. He's never stable. I'll be back…" She ran up the stairs, towards Damon's room.
"You have to run, so I won't kill you!" Damon shouted at Andie.
The girl stood up, took her coat and got out, almost bumping into Elena in the doorway.
"Oh, I'm sorry…,"the girl mumbled, which made Damon turn to look her way. His eyes met Elena's and he immediately felt regret wash over him. He hated it…of course he did. He hated feeling anything…and she was able to make him feel everything: regret, pain, love, hate, and every other human emotion he wasn't supposed to feel.
"Damon…" Elena started carefully.
"Elena, go away!" Damon yelled, but Elena didn't move. Then again, when had she ever obeyed him?
For a few minutes they just stood there, staring at each other. Elena was strategically waiting for him to calm down. He was hoping she'd just leave, so he could go back to feeling empty and miserable.
"He's right, isn't he? You don't have any respect for me? And why would you? I'm a monster… You don't feel anything for me…you just keep me around cause you know I can protect you."
"Who's right? Damon, what are you talking about?" Elena asked, confused.
"Stefan…he…he said that… what you feel for him, you'll never feel for me…he said you respect him and you will never respect me..." Damon said quietly.
Elena just looked at him for a moment. She didn't know if she should be angry at Stefan for saying something like that to Damon, or if she should be angry at Damon for believing him.
"Well, he's wrong…" Elena whispered.
Damon pulled himself up and in a split second he was in front of her. He was expecting her to take a step back, to put some distance between them, but she didn't. She stretched out her hand and grabbed his. Damon's body shivered lightly at her touch.
"I thought you knew me better than this…you were able to see right through me, just like I can see through you. What happened with that Damon, the Damon that saved his brother from himself...the Damon that saved me more than once…the Damon that spared Caroline's mom's life…where is that Damon?" she asked weakly. "I respect that Damon and I care about him. I'm pretty sure he's still in there somewhere. He's the one that keeps fighting for me…the one who told that girl to leave, so he wouldn't hurt her more than he already did."
"No, you're wrong. That Damon… he's gone, and he's not coming back." Damon tried to say the words in a cold and detached manner, but Elena immediately picked up on the sadness in them.
"No, he's not gone. I'm not giving up on you, Damon, I never will."
"I'm not your little pet project, Elena…"
"I didn't say you were. You're Damon Salvatore, the guy who stood by me no matter what, saved my life when I didn't want to be saved, listened to me when no one else would, told me the truth no matter how much it hurt me; the guy whose life I've saved many times, the guy capable of making me loosen up…the guy in whose hands I'll put my life without any hesitation."
"I can still see through you. I can see the way you take pity on the guy that felt for you because you don't feel the same is quite transparent," Damon said sarcastically.
"How do you know I'm not just trying to save this guy because I feel for him too, and I can't see me living my life without him…?"
N: Now you can review and tell me I lost it!
