JOUST
Peachblossom's hooves were the only sound in the air as she turned him to look back down the lane.
The crowd, the air, everything around her, was silent.
Kel looked down the lane. There, flat on his back in slightly muddy dirt, was her opponent. The opponent she had just unseated.
She didn't believe it.
She was so shocked and distracted that her grip on her lance slip, and it was at the last moment that she kept it from falling into the mud.
A few moments later, the clerk recording the results nudged the herald to announce Kel as the winner. He jumped at the elbow and looked back and forth between Kel and her opponent, almost as if he thought, if he did it enough, they would switch, and Kel would be the one who had flown.
But no, his constant look switching did nothing. She was till on her horse, and her opponent was still on his back.
The herald cleared his throat, "The winner, by unhorsing of opponent, Lady Knight Keladry of Mindelan!"
The crowd was silent. Than, slowly, Raoul got to his feet, clapping for Kel. Bui was next to join him. Than others. Bit by bit, the entire crowd in the stands was on it's feet clapping for her and cheering her name.
Kel couldn't believe it.
She had done it.
Seeing her opponent rise and wave off the healers' who came to assist him, Kel watched as he slowly walked toward her. Reaching her, he bowed. "Well done, Mindelan," he commented, pulling off his helm and wiping his forehead with a handkerchief he'd pulled out of his boot, making sure to be careful around the area of the hurrok scar. He tucked the handkerchief in his pocket and held out a hand for her to shake. "Well done."
Kel shook his hand. "Thank you, sir."
He nodded and headed back across the lanes to his side, helm in his arm and his head held high.
Kel watched him walk away with a face of stone. Inside though, she was fighting to control her excitement.
She'd done it.
She'd beat him.
She'd unseated him.
"My lady, are you alright?" the attendant asked, taking her lance from her.
Kel nodded. Alright? Of course she was alright!
For she, Keladry of Mindelan, had unseated Wyldon of Cavall.
She'd jousted against him, and won.
A/N: I thought of this a while ago and today felt like sitting down and writing it up. I don't think anyone else has written one like it. Have they? I'd like to read them if they have.
Oh well. I hoped you like it. Please read and review.
THANKS
