Why was she thinking about this? She had three interviews in the morning, a photo shoot, some movies that she needed to finish, and a whole pile of research that still needed to be done. Her mind should have been focusing on something else.

"Hermann," she finally said, looking down at the tattoos that she now wore with extra pride.

"Hmm?" she replied.

"When we were in the kaijus head," she said, "remember when for a moment we passed through each others' minds and could feel each others' emotions?"

"Yes?" She looked up from her math work, an eyebrow raised. Her cane was in one hand and the piece of chalk in the other; she looked just like she did back in those days when their work in the lab truly had been important, when at any moment the world could have ended.

"That feeling you felt for me... Tell me that it was just a mix up with the kaiju."

Hermann frowned. "A mix up? I'm sure I felt the same thing. Are you saying that we need an analysis? I can get some papers. If there's some other emotional energy then we must check it. What if kaiju have emotions? What if we learned their thought process beyond destroying our planet?"

The way she was speaking, she sounded just like Newt.

"No, that's fine." Newt said. "We don't need to worry about that." She looked away from her, back at the papers before her. Once she finished working on a few then she would get dinner and go to bed. She needed to be refreshed when she went to the interviews the next day.

"So my feelings are returned?"

Newt turned red. "I..."

"Well?" Her voice raised.

"Maybe," Newt said.

"Do you really expect the damn kaiju to be in love with you?"

If she had said that a few weeks before they would have screamed at each other for hours. Now, she couldn't help but chuckle.

"Let's go eat something." Newt put her hands in her pockets. "I need to get something in me, and I'm sure the same is for you. I'll pay; I have more than enough spare cash laying around now."

"I haven't been to a restaurant in a long time."

Newt smirked. "Me too. This will be a nice start." And she knew exactly where to go as well. Being inside Hermann's head had taught her just what her favorite food was.
