Kaien Kurosaki walked the way to the 1st company Barrack with his father Ichigo. Twenty years had passed since the defeat of the fullbrings. Ichigo Kurosaki and Rukia Kuchiki had married, and now had a twelve year old son named after the former 13 company assistant captain, Kaien. the time had come for Kaien's examination to see where he would fit in the 13 court guards. he hoped to be in 5th, as this was the company his father was lieutenant of.

"What company do you think I'll be in dad?" he asked Ichigo.

Ichigo stopped. "Whatever company you're in, I'm sure you'll shine bright." he smiled.

they arrived at the first company gate.

"Fifth company Lieutenant! Ichigo Kurosaki! requesting entrance for Kaien Kurosaki's company exam!" Ichigo bellowed.

The doors swung open, and Ichigo and Kaien, Kaien more hesitantly, entered. Inside stood the 13 court guard captains. Ichigo took his place beside Captain Momo Hinamori. Kaien saw his mother, Rukia, standing next to captain Ukitake of 13th company.

"It has come to our attention, that because of your heritage, you need not go into the soul reaper academy before taking your company exam." said the captain commander. "as such, we've summoned assistant captain of 3rd company to be your opponent for the exam."

sasuke Urahara stepped up to the box infront of Kaien.

"Welcome Kaien!" said Sasuke with a smile.

Captain of 2nd company Soi Fon handed Kaien a nameless Zanpaku-to.

"are you ready boy?" Said Soi Fon.

Kaien looked concerned. "This Sword…"

"yes?" said the Capatrin Commander.

"This sword, it doesn't like me…" said Kaien sadly.

everyone looked puzzled.

"it's a nameless Zanpaku-to, it doesn't speak." said Sasuke.

"I cannot use it, it doesn't want me to…" said Kaien, not showing his face.

"then what do you expect to use?" said Soi Fon.

Kaien pulled a wooden sword out of the backpack he was carrying. it looked very ill made, but oddly enough, felt strong. Kaien said with a smile.

Everyone felt pity for the young soul reaper-to-be.

"Kaien…" said Sasuke sadly. "if you fight me with that, it'll be rediuced to splinter, sorry…"

"Does this mean I can't do the exam?" said Kaien.

"Hold on." said the captain Cammander. "if you are willing to fight with that, you may still take the Exam…"

Everyone looked shocked. why would the captain commander want Kaien's favorite sword reduced to splinters?

Kaien stared at everyone around him. at his father, at his mother, at Sasuke, and finally, at the captain Commander.

"I'll do it" he said without a doubt.
