"I'm not surprised that your head is like this." Hijikata stated, gently caressing the unruly silver curls.
"Eh, what do you mean by that? Are you trying to pick a fight with my natural perm?" Only his tone held a bit of his characteristic annoyance, Gintoki was actually more than a little relaxed.
He lay with his head in the vice-commander's lap, and enjoyed the soft massaging of his scalp. It felt wonderful and he thought he was about to melt.
"What I meant is.. you keep everything to yourself. Your past, your inner thoughts. Everything." Hijikata said softly, as if it was a matter of fact. Probably it was, Gintoki thought.
"How is me talking related to my perm?" he asked dumbly, obviously avoiding the actual topic. The black haired man was dangerously clever and seemed to know him better than everyone. 'And that's why I can't tell you these things,' Gintoki thought sadly.
"Normally a head like yours would explode from all the useless things stuffed inside." Hijikata loved teasing him.
'How I lost my parents,…'
"That's cruel, Oogushi-kun" Gintoki snapped, but not for real, he was still content the way he was.
'…how I met Shouyo-sensei,'
"… but you're really a durable idiot. You're a lot like a cockroach."
"Hey! Don't look down on cockroaches, they're the stron—" Gintoki couldn't finish his ranting as his lips were sealed by the other's.
' …how I got involved in the war with the Amanto.'
He appreciated the kiss, and returned it as soon as his mind registered the act of being kissed.
"Is kissing cockroaches a new hobby for you then?" he asked, when they both were gasping slightly after ending the kiss.
'Or how I was found by the old hag, resigned to die in that cold graveyard…'
"Shut up"
"And mayonnaise is your favorite food, Oogushi-kun is such a weirdo!~~"
'These thoughts…'
"I said shut up" Hijikata hissed again, and bent down again to kiss him. This time he didn't aim for his lips, but sprayed gentle kisses all over his face.
'These memories that plague me.'
Gintoki smiled and caressed the body above him, and circled Hijikata's back with his arms softly.
"All of these…"
The officer pushed his curls away from his eyes to reveal the always hidden brow of the freelancer and pressed his lips to the exposed skin.
'It's not like I don't feel the need to tell all of these. I just don't want anyone to know. Especially you… That's all.'
"I …" Gintoki started, his mind frantically searching for the right words. He tightened his arms around the other. " … I'm fine like this." He blurted it out. His eyes met cold blue ones. For a long moment they held eye contact. Then Hijikata's gaze softened and he nodded.
" I understand." He whispered.
'I know you do.'
"Thank you."
A/N: Okay… I'm a little more than embarrassed to post this. My first story … well the first one I actually dare to share with anyone. I wanted it to be similar to a manga, where you know… there are white oval speech bubbles for talking, and black rectangular ones for one character's inner thoughts. I apparently failed. I apologize.
Please tell me what you think!
