Legends 00
Finally, everything was silent. The Hero glanced back at the blood-soaked ground, a trail he had left behind him. The temple courtyard was littered with the dead, bodies of monsters and soldiers alike. The sparse soldiers that remained standing were teetering on their feet. They looked lost.
His eyes finally rested on the one he had been looking for: The Princess. Like himself, she was drenched in red, but she was relatively unharmed. He had made sure of it. Her dress, ruined from the battle, was torn and rumpled. Her usually pristine blond hair was disorderly. Despite her dishevelled appearance she looked at him with fierce confidence and determination. A look he'd never forget. And at her feet laid the corpse of Hyrule's greatest threat: Ganondorf.
With a graceful step she bounded over the body of their enemy and joined her Hero on the temple steps. She nodded her approval, ready to finish the quest they had started so long ago. The Hero opened the large stone doors.
Hylia's Temple. Once long forgotten, it lay nearly in ruins. It's foundation had slipped long ago, sinking steadily over the years into the ground. It's stone floor and walls were cracked, the deep fissures set in the surfaces like ugly scars. At it's far end the two double doors protecting the shrine had fallen off it's hinges, leaving the rooms contents bare: A simple altar with a gleaming inscription.
As the duo approached, their footsteps echoed. The Princess' loud and clear. His were beginning to falter from the wounds he had sustained, but he kept up. He had to. They needed to finish this. They needed to give Hyrule some sort hope.
The Princess had reached the altar and after a moment of preparation, began the Song of the Goddess. A great light pierced the room, shaking it. It had not taken long for the Goddesses to respond. Appearing from the great whiteness, the three goddesses smiled down at them. Just as the Princess had predicted, they had been waiting for them. He stood in awe. There was no words to describe their beauty.
"You have done well, young ones." When the Goddess of Wisdom spoke it sounded more like a heavenly song than speech. Strong, bright and musical. "You have heeded my words well, Zelda. But you know there is a steep price to what must be done, of what I have asked you."
"I know." Replied the Princess. Her tone spoke of loss to com. Of unspeakable danger. "The Triforce must become pure once more, even if it means enacting Demise's curse. With the Triforce at it's full potential maybe we can keep evil at bay more efficiently. I can keep my people alive."
He felt faint. The wound in his chest stung, burning him to his core. The Hero fell to his knees, his sight became blurry. Then there were hands grasping his shoulders. The touch was a familiar comfort. The Princess called to him in panic, but he could not form a response.
"You have to help him! He's done so much for my lands." There was heartbreak in her voice, as if she already knew the answer and disliked it. She knew how this would end.
"We can only perform one miracle for you. I'm sorry, but we have grown weaker over time. You must chose."
He felt her grip tighten around him and he weakly reached up to return the gesture. "I'm fine." His voice sounded pained, even to his own ears. "We'll meet again in another life." She nodded into him, understanding. That would not stop her from crying for Hyrule's Hero.
"I chose to bring the Triforce to it's true glory, and to activate Demise's curse on it. Let all who have fallen to the Triforce, all who have threatened Hyrule rise again. I shall meet them on the battlefield."
He could feel himself growing weaker, and felt a moment of peace. They had managed to win in Hyrule's name once more. Even if it promised bloodshed, they at least had a fighting chance. As light filled the chamber once more the Hero's body fell limp.
