Spencer coughed and cried. Derek apparently thought it was a good idea to have a barbecue inside. Apparently that wasn't a good idea. And apparently they were dying.

Spencer reached out in the smoke hovering his. He felt Derek's lifeless arm. There was a pulse. A soft pulse, but there was a pulse. He couldn't carry him out on his own. He was too weak. He silently apologized as his pulse stopped. He reached for the door lock and used all his possible muscle strength to unlock it. Then he crawled out into the backyard as the house exploded in flames.

Sirens. He heard sirens. He didn't want to be found. He wanted to be gone and lost forever.

Spencer gained his leg strength and walked deep into the forest. Resting against a tree, he glanced up at the faded sky. He needed to apologize to Derek. For letting him go. He cried, "Please, please forgive me; but I won't be home again. Maybe today I'll look up, and barely conscious I'll say to no one, 'Isn't something missing?' You won't cry for my absence I know. You forgot me long ago! Am I that unimportant? Am I so insignificant? Isn't something missing? Isn't someone missing me? Even though I'm the sacrifice. You won't try for me, not now. Though I'd die to know you loved me; I'm all alone. Isn't something missing me?" He couldn't feel his body anymore. He couldn't feel his pulse beating against the skin of his wrist. A tear fell on the side of his face as he floated away.
